Roster Next Year

Spewing of a torn Achilles, KJ Adams suffered one in KU’s loss. The press release said it’ll be a 9-10 month recovery. Yet people think JN should have been back in 7 months lol.
Once again. Most were talking about jones.

Jeff himself teased of coming back. Let things man.

Just saw on twitter we had a center from indiana do a zoom meeting with the coaches today. Didn’t see indiana play this year. Any good? I will butcher the kids name but something like mgboku
Can he rebound? That is by far the biggest issue that has to be fixed this off season. We got absolutely abused on the glass

You were close. Mackenzie Mgbako. He's not bad, I think he was a 5 star out of HS. LIke 6'9" and 220, averaged like 12 PPG and 5 RB in about 25 minutes. Didn't block a lot of shots though. But can shoot FTs well for a bigger guy, like a 80% clip over his two years. I watched a handful of B1G games and caught him a couple of times. Nice player, but wouldn't call him dominant on the blocks. Better than what we've had inside since Doolittle and he wasn't even a big.

He would be a good pick up if there was $$ to get him. Also considering the draft but can't imagine him getting a favorable draft grade at this point over NIL.

Watched a lot of Kai Rogers film today. He reminds me of a taller Kenny Lofton Jr from La Tech and the Grizzlies. He’s got great touch around the rim, but when he jumps it’s just about 6 inches off the ground.

He could work his way into the starting lineup but I’m really skeptical of him being our main big unless he somehow adds to his vertical. Usually if you don’t have a rim protector at the 5, the guy will at least be quick/nimble. Rogers is neither of those.

Offense will be fine with him on the floor, though. Really elite stuff on that end in the restricted area.

Watched literally every shot he took in AAU in 2024. It’s on YouTube. Type of guy that will take a layup in a wide open lane. His 7’4 wingspan helps with blocks against his current competition, but he’s going to have to jump higher in college to get those same results.

I definitely expect his vertical to increase in college. That’s something you can definitely work on.

Hypothetically, assuming Moser is not at OU (fired or leaves for another job)....

Keep but probably not happening:

  • Jeremiah Fears - stay in college or go pro?....probably pro even if I think it's the wrong decision (to each their own, not arguing it again lol). Regardless, the next coach should at least have a conversation with him. He won't likely end up staying at OU but you kind of have to try, right?
  • Jadon Jones - I think his (on-court) presence alone would have been enough to win an extra game or two and save Moser's job/make the tourney. I doubt he'll stay either way now and has already been placed on Trilly Donovan's portal watch list.

Keep....could/should happen:

  • Dayton Forsythe - he'll command some more NIL now but he's a must keep. Foundational piece....both playing-wise (his talent) and for fans/attendance. It's his team, in a way.
  • Kai Rogers - I love his potential. The next coach needs to try hard to keep him.

Impartial:

  • Duke Miles - he's been super inconsistent and could easily be replaced. If he stays, cool. If he leaves, cool. He's not as good as I thought he'd be....became even more prevalent as the competition got harder (SEC play).
  • Alec Blair - I think he's overrated as a basketball player and could struggle in the SEC....especially right away.
  • Andreas Holst - a little too soft/Luke Northweather-esque. Needs a lot of development.
  • Jeff Nwankwo - I expect him to stay at OU and that's okay. We'll see if he can bounce back and be a good player. If he leaves though, I won't care.

On both Holst and/or Blair, I think OU would be better off letting them find new programs, while portal-ing more talented players, but if one or both is at OU next season, that's okay too, I guess. I expect Blair to be at OU because of baseball. Holst is a wild card. It depends on the next coach. A good coach probably lets him walk/develop at a mid major.

Let walk:

  • Jacolb Cole - needs to drop a level
  • Luke Northweather - needs to drop a level
  • Yaya Keita - needs to go pro in something other than sports
  • Kuol Atak - too raw and may not ever be SEC quality
  • Mo Wague - foul machine...a new coach should be able to find a better big man (or two+).

Out of eligibility:

  • Kobe Elvis - Thankfully! OU beat out College of Charleston for a kid Dayton didn't want to keep. It's like some of us knew he was a bad take...imagine that.
  • Brycen Goodine - an elite shooter...46%. Sadly, he didn't offer much more than that, though. I expected a little more defensively, for sure. Not all-SEC level...just more. I thought he was P4/5 worthy and I think that's still right. He could have helped a lot of good teams off the bench. One trick pony.
  • Jalon Moore - using hindsight, he should have portal-ed out of OU, and found a better program like Milos and/or Otega. I legit feel bad for him. Tough kid, you could tell he cared most of the time....Unfortunately, he's the prominent example of going down with the Moser ship. I hope he kills it overseas....his athleticism should earn him a nice decade long (or so) international career.
  • Glenn Taylor Jr - meh...okay at times, non-existent at other times. Truly, and easily, replaceable.
  • Sam Godwin - I can't hate on him too much. He should have been a career backup big at OU and I think that would have been a good spot for him....but alas, his coach couldn't recruit good bigs so Sam was forced to fight above his weight class (start 2 straight years in tough leagues).
This was a hypothetical if/when Moser left but it's going kind of according to plan thus far anyway....

Cole
Northweather
Keita

Out.

My guess is Atak will stay since Moser seems to be staying.

Wague....idk. When I typed that breakdown, Wague was just doing okay-ish. He started playing a lot better after, of course.

Miles and Jones are up in the air. It could end up becoming Jones stays and Miles leaves...best guess.
