Rotation -- Last year and Next Year

If Pledger starts, he will have to do something that he has never had to do at OU before. Beat out someone for the position.

As a freshman, he couldn't beat out a bumb ankle soph. that was destined to be a D leauge washout. As a soph. there was no one. Calvin started the season as a point guard. And last year the only player to push him, left.

Mayby he can. But, if he does, he will be better for it.

Comical.

The next few months on this board of one person after another claiming that Hornbeak, Cousins and Heild will be starters is going to be comical.

My concern now that Blair is gone is that if Grooms get hurt we go from having an experienced solid senior to NOBODY and having to use one of these freshman at PG or force Pledger to do that role again, which is not his game.

Go back, read my post. Do you really think that was lecture worthy?

No, it wasn't. The response you got was the result of a cumulative effect from a history of criticizing Pledger.

All I'm saying is that since the "hero worship," as you call it, has all but disappeared, it will stay that way if you don't continue to open the same ol' can of worms.

Why are you assuming Cousins > Hield and Hornbeak? Hornbeak has a background as a point guard as well.

I personally like Hornbeak as the main guard off the bench for the athleticism and versatilely he can bring to it.

I believe Cousins was specifically targeted as a point and given his reputation as a "gym rat" think Lon evidently loved the guy, going pretty hard after him. Cousins had said that's what he wanted (to play Point), and his commitment and comments from his coach lends me to think Lon made that assurance.

You know more about H/H than I do. But I had (in my mind) pictured them both at the 2 and that one might redshirt and the other back up Pledger.
I could be way off on that. Just speculation here.

Anyhow, as I had looked at the roster/depth, I just saw a need at backup PG.
And then Blair quits, and it appears that his HS coach said Lon wanted to "give him the ball". So, I just assume he's going to be at the point. I could be wrong about Cousins playing over Hornbeak, I don't know much about either of them to be perfectly honest. I'm just a fan 'yapping his digital jaw'.

That is what I thought. Someone else was trying to jump the rail.

Do you think kids are recruited by telling them "son, I think you have a lot of work to do and will likely sit on the bench lucky to see 5 minutes a game your first season"?

I suspect coaches offere every kid the opportunity to take the ball, be the primary scorer etc.

One thing I like about Hornbeak for sure and to a lesser extent Hield is that they played the best teams in the country all year long. That kind of competition is something OU needs from freshman. For example Hield's team gave the Harrison twins their worst loss all season. I have no idea what Hield did in that game.

Hornbeak's team played just about every top ten team in the country this year. And like Ada said he seems like a player the coach wanted in the game when it counted. That game against Prestonwood, the coach moved Hornbeak on Randle when the score got close in the 3rd quarter. It reminded me of Austin Johnson defending Darrel Arthur in the state semis. It says a lot about their game.

With Kruger bringing in 3 dynamic guards, it will be interesting to see if we go with any 3 or 4 guard lineups this coming season, depending on who we're playing. Assuming they're as good as advertised, a lineup of Grooms, Pledger, Hornbeak/Hield, Osby and M'Baye sounds pretty darn exciting. A couple of athletic big men, super fast Grooms, sharp shooter in Pledger, and dynamicism in Hornbeak/Hield.

Yes please.

We will definitely play a 3 guard lineup at some point. It's actually strange that we didn't do it much this year (strange that we didn't have the players to do it, I should say). More teams than no run the 3 guard lineup, and it's actually my preference.

Sperry and Soonerman, I'm more interested in whether or not my new sourdough starter takes hold than what either of you two pinheads think. But, I do find it interesting that those with no defense of their position or arguement of their own always have their juvenile mouth as a default position.

This rotation is shaping up to be much better in terms or quality depth and athleticism.

Last year's roster had several guys that were not Big 12 level kids:

Honore
Blair
Washington
Arent
Neal

That's a terrible ratio that is now looking much improved....

You're trying to use the fact that Pledger didn't have much competition to demean his skills as a player. You have consistently argued that Pledger is not a good 3 point shooter, despite that being patently untrue.

You seem incredibly biased in your assessment of him, although I have a feeling its you simply unwilling to admit that you're wrong about him. Either way, you come off as a complete moron.

What I think is moronic is that people with no legit rebuttle, just make up things that I said. It happens all the time.

I never said he wasn't a good 3 pt. shooter. I have said that he was a good shooter from all ranges. It is his severe and lengthy list of shortcomings in most all other areas that I point out.
