Rotnei Clarke situation

The point is Rotnei Clarke just isn't the kind of player you build an entire team or offense around. Not at the division 1 major conference level. I'm not taking anything away from him, but if you're building your team around a smallish three point specialist you're going to have some issues. Comparing him to guys like Blake or Durant is beyond silly.

I was just using them as their roles on their teams. They are scorers!
Not comparing their ability. Im not crazy.

Why cant you build around a 6'1 2 gaurd?
CLARKE
Fresh- 12.2 pg
Soph- 15.1 pg

Redick-(Duke)
Fresh- 15.0 pg
Soph- 15.9 pg

Redick was 2-3 inches taller, but Those stats are not too far apart.
I know Duke is a different animal than Arkansas, but if he continues to progress...

I would love to have him. Gym Rat... What do you dislike about him so much?

if you are the most prolific scorer in state history, I think the ball should go through your hands 90% of the time or more.

Let any top-notch player take virtually all of the shots, and he's going to rack up big numbers.

As good as Clarke is, he wouldn't have been the most prolific scorer in state history without the ball going through his hands 90% of the time. His high school stats were, quite simply, inflated.

That's not a knock on him, and I wouldn't mind having him in crimson and cream, but he's not remotely the best scorer the state's ever produced.

I love Rotnei as a second or third perimeter shooter but not as a go-to offensive player.

How can you say 2nd or 3rd Shooter???? He is avg. 15 pts as a Soph in the SEC.

So who is the best scorer?
Also Led his team to a State Championship

Oklahoma All-Time Scoring List

1. Rotnei Clarke, Verdigris, (2008) 3,643
2. Ty Harman, Maud, (1989) 3,639
3. Keiton Page, Pawnee, (2008) 3,571
4. Kelenna Azubuike, Victory Christian, (2002) 3,530
5. Kenneth Johnson, Grandfield, (1979) 3,191

he would be our best shooter if you ask me. unless of course we sign someone between now and then but rotnei is one of the better shooters in the country right now imo.

I don't see OSU trying to build around Keiton Page. Now granted they lose James Anderson this year but next year they will probably build around that post player they have who could be one of the best in the Big 12 next year.

Page is a lot different than rotnei. Page is 5'8 and Clarke is 6'1.
Thats a huge difference!

They wont win if they think they can build around him...

but they can be very good if he is a guy they look for to shoot the ball, he can rack up the points quick...but as far as a scorer (guy that can fill it up in many different ways), he is not one...

He is no doubt one of the best shooters in the nation, and if they are able to get another more consistent scoring threat that will demand a double then he can really flourish...as long as he is "the guy" or a guy that teams game plan for, he wont be successful...just like in the game at OU, all Cade had to do is take away the 3pt shot...he was the only viable offensive threat in that game and they struggled because he struggled to get looks...

Not really, being PG you can get away with being 5'8 a lot more than being a SG and being 6'1 (if he is that)...

but they are totally different players, Page is a much better team player and looks to get others involved...plays on a solid team where he knows his role...Clarke is a better shooter but has much tougher mismatches then Page at the SG position...problem is that they are both a liability on defense...

This is 100% true. Rotnei is a great shooter. He is not a playmaker and not a guy you can build your offense around. He needs screens set for him at this level, and a playmaking point guard who can penetrate and kick. What Cade was able to do to him this past season speaks volumes, especially since he was not able to do the same against bigger, more athletic wings (and this is not putting down Cade).

Averaging 15 pts on a bad team is not a big deal. What did TMG average for us? And for all his shortcomings, TMG could actually beat his defender, something RC cannot do.

I am all for a guy like RC, and even RC himself if he understands his role, at OU. Would love to have him. But anyone who thinks that being the leading scorer in state history in a small class hs has anything to do with high-major D1 success needs to look a little deeper.

And nobody has mentioned anything yet about the fact that your defense is going to take a huge hit with a player like RC on the floor. Not that it would have made things any worse this past season. But I guess that's a song and dance for another day.

Both are 2 gaurds mainly.
Clarke had 51 2's and 100 3's
I dont think that is just a spot up shooter.

Doesnt Gulley run the PG more than page?

lol at the fact you are comparing Rotnei to JJ. Comical.

If Rotnei is their "go-to" guy as you say, Arkansas will continue to struggle; if he decides to fit a role on a team as a player who doesn't shoot as much but works others throught the offense then Arkansas has a chance to improve. From my standpoint, I think Rotnei wants to win, but only if he is the man. If Pelphrey came to him and said, "we are a better team with you scoring 12-14 ppg on fewer shots and distributing the ball more" Rotei probably wouldnt be for that. That's why I wouldn't want him at OU.

3A is not that small of a class. So now it matters what class you play in?

See any Large schools here... Kelenna (4a) is in the NBA. Page played at a 2a school. BG played at a 2a school. cade davis played a 4a school. :cade

Comical.

I was saying you can build around "SHOOTERS". Not comparing the 2 as players.... Scorers Thats what Im saying

I would say building around one of the best shooters in NCAA history is possible...Rotnei is hardly that.
