does anyone really believe this is what we are going to play, or that it means "fast break" basketball?

this is nothing against the Kruger hire (which in context, i like).....we are not going to be scoring 90 points a game based on Lon's history. is it just PR or is that what it takes as a continual lie that never happens (Kelvin said it, Jeff said it....Lon's players are saying it...)....or is it code for something i've yet to understand?

players want to picture themselves running the floor, jamming the ball, etc. OU Fans mos def want to see that. Bring back BillyBall (Billy never lost a game at OU or ever disappointed in the NCAA, btw)....

i just see a cleft here between Kruger's past teams and the "run and gun"/up and down/....i'm seeing in quotes and player quotes.

honestly i don't care that much abgout "style of play" and was NEVER on the other board a 'fire kelvin because he isn't entertaining me' kind of guy. when Kelvin started taking the ball out of Taj Gray's hands, that was worrisome...but's another thread.

i grew up in the Chucky Barnett and then Tisdale era so i don't need 100 ppg to keep my interest for my entertainment dollar to be an OU hoops fan....Barnett and David Little led the Big 8 in scoring at about 16 a pop.

interesting, i guess that's what you have to say these days. uptempo is maybe code for individual play?

i saw Kruger's KSU teams play in person. Richmond could score from anywhere on the floor...and i mean anywhere. ridiculous player. really complete player like you don't see anymore.

I don't buy it either. It rarely makes sense to play that style of ball, anywhere close to all the time. Run when the opportunity is there? Sure, but most teams do that.

or neither

if you're going for sarcasm i think your delivery could use some work.

I think we'll try and push the ball more when we have the chance. From what I've seen of UNLV in the past few years. They aren't a Billy Tubbs type run and gun thing. But they will push the ball when given a chance. Which is radical from what we really have been doing.

The fact that it was immediately preceded by the statement "Billy never lost a game at OU" should've given it away.

Are you saying Billy did actually lose a game?

Well, maybe the one to Kansas in the 1988 NCAA finals. But in truth, the Sooners really lost that one to the zebras.

1988 - best season in OU history.

But I guess some people could think of it as a dissapointment. I just dont want to know those people, or what they think of the other 100+ seasons of OU basketball.

I might be the only one, but that seasons was the "best of times and worst of times" deal. We were by far the best team in the country and we got jobbed.

Well I'm thinking we will average closer to 80 per game than the 60 it seems we have averaged since Tubbs left town. Anyone who thinks we are going to be scoring 100 per game don't know much about the state of college basketball in thus country. That's a time gone by. I definitely think we will be up tempo though and I welcome that change. In the end I just want to win.

We averaged about 72 with Kelvin and around 70 even with Capel.

Is that just for Big 12 games or does it include all the times we drop 91 on Northwest Popcorn A&M?
Here's the exact stats if you want them.

Capel 70 overall, 68 in conference

Sampson 74 overall, 72 in conference

Billy Tubbs 90 overall, 85 in conference.

Thanks. Tbh I am surprised the discrepancy isn't more in conference, but that's what I was interested in thanks for providing.

With the physicality of todays game, run and gun means something completely different than it did in the mid 80s, I would love to average around 75 per game that is if we are only allowing 65 per game. Look at the Championship game, todays game has nothing to do with being pretty, its about hard nosed D. We must play hard nosed D, Rebound and shoot Free Throws well. Under Tubbs we got into our Run and Gun show mainly because of our D, Mookie I believe is still our all times steals leader. Granted we pushed the ball hard back then, but it was still our D that gave us the easy buckets. Much like Gary Blair said after his aTm womens team won the ship. Offense comes and goes but defense has to be consistent. That may not have been his exact words but that is the gist of it.
