Post on Rivals says that Spangler might be home sick and wants to transfer to Oklahoma. Thoughts on his game? Obviously a gatorade player of the year put up good numbers, and saw he is a 6'8 big man. Had 4 points and 10 rebounds against WVU in the tourney, and would add depth to our bench while he redshirts and we have a big man with some eligibility after.

Think Lon and crew would have interest?

I don't think he is as good as some on this board suggested a couple of weeks ago, but he is a solid option for depth. Not sure I'd take him AND Korchek, but I'll let LK make that call.

Just depends on who else is coming in, he would add some depth, but is not a high impact player.

2.6 ppg and 2.2 rbg doesn't twirl my beanie but I trust whatever LK does.

I know for fact he has talked with an assistant coach at Gonzaga about transferring. Few wasn't available yet cause he is/was at the final four.

Stats from a freshman year are not much to hang your hat on when you have to consider depth chart, style of play etc. First year you are getting your feet wet and not a lot of minutes. He didn't start one game and only played about half. Would think if we do get him, getting used to D1 ball and the work ethic, then coming back and spending a year redshirting, he would definitely be ready to be a very good bench body as a RS soph in 2 years.

Sounds very similar to Osby as a Freshman.

Edit Just looked up Osby's stats, he averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 12.6 mpg as a freshman, spangler averaged 6.6 mpg

Rather have Spangler than this korcheck dude who wants to come in and redshirt.... That Sounds like a waste of time..

korcheck is an impact player in year 2 i don't think spangler is

Just like Nick Thompson, Tyler Neal and Casey Arent. I am amazed that year after year (at about this time), OU starts recruiting some big white guy and most on here get all pumped about the possibility of signing him. Then, after about a quarter of the season (when it is obvious he is over matched physically), everyone wants him/them to transfer. I guess Korchek is the guy this year.

What does them being "white" have to do with it?

One could argue both Taylor and Blake Griffin are white, since their mom is white.

Cade Davis, Ryan Minor, Dave Sieger, Alvan Adams, Casey Bookout, etc.

I guess as long as we sign an Orlando Allen, James Mayden, Larry Turner, etc., then it's ok?

He is a good player who had a few minutes at a very good program as a freshman. At worst this year he would have been our sixth man.
I've actually watched him play against Daniel Orton and he easily won the battle that day. He is nowhere near as big as Daniel but he plays much better basketball.

Maybe nothing. I am simply stating that OU does not have a great track record recently with these guys. They tend to lack the athleticism needed to play in Division I basketball.

And yes, I loved Cade Davis, Ryan Minor and Nate Erdman and would take guys like them in a heartbeat; but the thing about these three was that they were all tremendous athletes.

Huh?

Minor was an All American basketball player at OU, AND a professional baseball player. Tyler Neal might not start another game for OU in his career.

are we comparing t. neal now to ryan minor now? if so, I say yes. ;)

Don't want to get anywhere near this...but he did put "athlete" not "basketball player". So I guess he's saying T. Neal can jump higher? Also, Ryan Minor was a pretty decent "athlete" in his own right.

At the current state of our program I wish they were comparable as "basketball players" more so than "athletes"
