Been watching some of the Baylor game.....looks like they've reverted back to playing soft. They better figure out a new zone defense or they're going to play their way out of the tournament.

Was that a 1-3-1 zone they were using early??? Wisconsin would put two bigs behind down low and none of the middle would drop down??? How many times does that happen before you call timeout or change your defense?

And Baylor was playing soft on offense too. Austin had a sure jam early and instead laid it up, and missed. They got to get nasty or they're out.:facepalm

But, but.....I thought Drew could coach?

I think Drew can coach. He took over Baylor when the program was dead. Bliss had only won 14 games the two previous seasons and then was involved in that murder scandal. Baylor got as close to the death penalty as you could get for the 2005/06 season.

Drew has gone to 3 Sweet 16s in the last 5 years. He has averaged over 24 wins a season since 2007-08. Drew is certainly doing something right. Prior to Drew Baylor had 1 NCAA appearance since 1950.

However, I am confident Baylor is cheating. It is not plausible that both basketball and football took off with unproven coaches and zero history at the same time. Basketball is even more improbable because Drew wasn't from Texas. How did he possibly over come the lack of coaching experience, lack of local contacts, no playing experience (I read on the internet he didn't even play varsity ball in high school), and no history so quickly without cheating?

Sure he has advanced in the tournament but with the talent he has had he should have advanced a lot more.

Their defense is weak and their offense is inconsistent and very undisciplined. This year they didn't have as many outside shooters as normal but with the bigs they have they should have won the conference. Austin and Jefferson are major game changers if used properly.

The reason they beat us in the Big 12 tournament was that their big guys got off their cans and dominated us inside and caught us on a poor outside shooting night. 8 of 27 by our starters.

It seems to me that most people that don't think Drew is a good coach are simply following along with what everyone else says or think he is cheating. I don't know enough about basketball to determine if he is a bad coach or not but I'm leaning towards he isn't as bad as everyone says and that saying he can't coach is just the in thing to do. And let's not act like they have KU talent either.

A couple of lucky or timely Tourney runs is less telling than the regular season, IMO. You can tell watching his teams play that they aren't well coached. Especially when you consider the talent that he has on campus. It's kind of like Ford/osu, though Baylor has accomplished more in the Tourney so far, but he's had more opportunities as well.

Why is that? In a lot of sports the postseason is what matters

There aren't a lot of other sports where you can underachieve on the level that Baylor typically does during the regular season, and still get a post season shot. Maybe the NBA? College basketball is different in that way, b/c a preseason top 15 team can limp into the Dance, and then go on a run.

But my "thoughts" on Drew and his ability as a game day, or x's and o's coach, is simply from watching him and his teams over the years.

I live in Vegas and I can tell you everyone thought that was the easiest bet of the night and it certainly turned out that way. I bet all my winnings of the past weekend on Wisconsin.

Just got back from my post-loss BF.com stop. Not as much Scott Drew hate as in February.

I miss back when their football sucked. They used to curse at anything that moved back then when it came to basketball

I have no doubt that he underachieves.

But I think the whole argument of him having too much talent for his results is ridiculous. Dean Smith did this regularly and we didn't see anyone doubting his abilities as a coach.

Averaging 24 wins a season over 7 years is impressive.

For those Drew supporters, would you want him at OU if LK left suddenly?

No because i bet our compliance department is tougher than Baylor's, and we are watched more closely by the NCAA than Baylor is

Have any major schools come knocking on Drew's door? I don't know of any but I often take that as a sign of how a young coach is viewed outside of his university. I hope Baylor loves him and he stays there for years. However, like my OState fan of a cousin finally admitted to me this season, if no one else wants my coach, I'm not sure I want him.
