SEC Hoops?

I don't know it 100% for certain, but I very seriously doubt those revenue figures included private donations.

Okay, one of the top "programs" in the country can't even afford to get an indoor practice facility built and their other sales (like merchandising revenue) are only $1,000,000 behind aTm, a school with like twice the enrollment and alumni and not even the most popular product in their home state.

Dude, I have no beef with you and agree with 99% of what you post on here, but SEC is already stuck with non-hackers like Vanderbilt,Ole Miss, Mississippi State and South Carolina (and really, you could add UK in football). They are not looking to add more dead weight where the Have's are subsidizing the Have Not's.

The truth is, I' m fine with whatever happens becuase OU will be fine UNLESS the SEC says that they do not want oSu and somehow we are stuck with them like an ankle weight. I'll ask again, if the SEC sends an invitation to OU but not oSu, are you going to insist on oSu being part of the deal?

Of course not. My only point is that I don't think that would happen. And the numbers are what they are. You can try to dispute them all you want. And they are revenue, not profit. For all I know OSU is in the red after you factor in all their expenses. I do know that they do exceptionally well, revenue-wise, in "non-revenue" sports.

I think a move to the SEC would be a perfect fit for OU in both football and basketball.

I agree but I think it may not be OU's decision to make if the state legislature basically says OU and OSU have to be in the same conference.

I don't think what we are experiencing with the creation of super conferences can really be met with precedent.

with that said, have fun in the WAC agroids.

I'm not going to insist on anything but I'm not the one that gets to make those decisions. But ultimately neither are David boren or Joe castislione. I'm just saying let's face reality, and part of that reality is that OSU is one of the top 25 revenue producing athletic departments in the country.

Well then we are on the same page...I'm not "anti" oSu, I'm just "pro" OU, and I disagree with the value that oSu brings to a new conference re: television sets or academic hand jobs that the administrators want to give each other. OU is extremely competitive on both fronts. Same deal with Clemson, don't think they "add" anything to the SEC that they don't already get through the Cocks. SEC is stuck with certain teams, not sure they want to add others that are non-hackers, see ISU and Iowa for example. If oSu is invited along with us, great...but if everything is going to hell and a handbasket and some chump senator from Gotebo keeps us from maximizing where OU stands I'm going to be supremely hacked off, see nothing wrong with that.

The numbers are here:

http://www.ope.ed.gov/athletics/Ins...4743d352f31302f3230313020393a34363a343920504d

Over 31 million dollars is not allocated to any particular sport. At OU the number is about 29 million. I have no idea if those include private donations earmarked for the athletic department or not. It's hard to say for sure. As the site warns, "valid comparisons of athletics data are possible only with study and analysis of the conditions affecting each institution."

Let's just get real for a second, anything that has oSu generating the same type of money as aTm CANNOT be from merchandising. It just isn't realistic.

A cursory glance at the other Big 12 team's non-allocated money and OSU's doesn't look much different. Texas easily has the most and K-State, Iowa State and Tech the least, but the rest are right in line with O-State. I can't say for certain, but it seems dubious to suggest that these numbers include an artificial boost from Boone Pickens.

as much as I hate oSu, I don't think they would be bad for the SEC. In football they could finish in the middle of the 16 team SEC and the same in basketball.

Why is it not realistic? Yes, A&M has a larger enrollment. But when did they enact a rule that you can only purchase merchandise if you attend/attended the university?

If Arne Duncan presented you the data, would you find it credible then?

Because of oSu's national fan base? Seriously, set aside someone being "right" and someone being "wrong" for a second becuase NEITHER of us know for sure what is included in those numbers; but do you think oSu would even be closely competitive in merchandising vs. aTm? The year before, the same report actually had oSu AHEAD of OU in the same category, living in Oklahoma, do you think that is realistic? I'd be surprised if OU was even ahead of aTm in that respect.

It's not just merchandise. OSU sold a lot of high priced football tickets and a lot of high priced basketball tickets. Plus, they get a pretty nice chunk added from wrestling, a sport that only a handful of schools has better fan support.

When did A&M develop a rabid national fanbase? I must have missed that. Also, you're going to have to provide some proof that OSU topped OU in revenue according to this exact same source.

Not really. I don't think that oSu is remotely close to aTm in revenue produced on a yearly basis. I've presented valid reasons why I think that. Either way, I don't care, ALL I care about is OU's autonomy in going where OU wants to go. If [INSERT] Conference wants both oSu and OU, great! But if not, I don't want OU to be stuck. Not sure where this position went off the rails.

Why are you just focusing on merchandising? That is just one component of revenue. Ticket sales, bowl and NCAA payouts, tv revenue, etc. are all part of the revenue number.
