Shaka Smart: "OU SUCKS"

Remember when Mack Brown was so offended that OU fans did the upside down horns sign? Wonder what Mr. Holier Than Thou would think of that?
 
What would you expect him to say, NO HARM in this at all. Come on get over it! But for the record, Texas SUCKS and owns the title for SUCKING.
 
Is this much different than Capel calling Stillwater/GIA a "hellhole"?
 
well, honestly for the last 7 minutes we did suck...just sayin.
 
It isn't that big of a deal, but I sure couldn't see Lon, Bill Self, or Tubby Smith, etc. saying something like that about their rival. It was an immature move as a big-program coach, but it's not the end of the world either.:fexas-logo:

You expect to hear that kind of thing from fans, not coaches.
 
Shaka was just playin' with the students. It's just part of the game. I don't see it as any big deal. He's a young energetic coach who relates well to that generation, and gave them what they wanted to hear.

I'm with spencer. I can't imagine many other coaches doing that sort of thing and I'm glad ours doesn't, but whatever.
 
I think its great. It makes this rivalry better. I think its great to see hatred between the 2 schools. Just like when Capel made his comment about stillwater. I'm not saying I need to see Lon throw Horns down...but if he did...Great.

get over it? This is a message board. I don't see anybody going on and on about this.

But this is really really unprofessional for a coach to say this.

I'm glad he did though, b/c I actually liked shaka. Now it gives me more reason to heat up the rivalry

For starters saying a place is a hellhole is different than saying a university sucks.

And capel said it to his players, in a lockeroom.

is it a big deal? No. But i don't think relating to this generation as an adult makes it ok. I"m going to guess that the UT AD will have a talk with him about this. For a coach of a big program like UT to say something like this is pretty damn pathetic

Not a big deal but a confident, classy, mature coach doesn't stoop to that kind of fan pandering. Just like Sampson saying 'I don't want to hear texas sucks anymore' being overboard, what Smart said was weak. As a coach at either school, you just stay completely away from that kind of stuff. It's for the fans to have. It's not the business of coaches to do or police.

That can be true and it can still be a non-issue.
 
I love it. That's exactly how you want it to be, OU and Texas should hate each other.
