What's with the amateur forum police? Is there a one topic thread per board rule? Do you realize you take the time to click on a thread, click the reply button, and type an entry complaining about someone complaining?

No more topics about Capel - it comes across as whining

No more about Neal, or Kruger not using timeouts, or all the dead horses we beat around here - it's whiny

Look it was a relevant topic, if covered before. It was mentioned during the game. Discussions about basketball are what makes this board fun. Quit trying to discourage people from doing it, even if it is Vinny. If you don't like the thread, DON'T READ THE FREAKING THREAD.

I just realized I ended up defending Vinny of all people.

Najera was the exact same way. Always on the floor, always pushing, shoving, taking charges, flailing around, etc. As OU fans, we loved it. The rest of the conference hated Najera with a passion.

Same thing goes with Blake Griffin. Blake does a fantastic job of acting like he is just playing out there, but there is a reason why players on other teams literally attack him while he was in college and now in the pro's. He's rough, he's dirty, and that's just a way to play the game. Blake Griffin has been punched, thrown, suplexed, hit in the nuts about 10 times, bumped, pushed, etc and it happens for a reason.. because he's freakin dirty.

Being physical, dirty, etc doesnt make these guys bad people or anything. They are just physical players who cross the line and try to dominate people out there. I say that because some of you guys act like Smart should be arrested or something.
 
Funny because I was talking to a couple ISU fans about Najera last night. Still bitter.

My comparison to Najera was more in regards to the rough play. Najera didn't flop. Can't remember one time I saw him do that. Other teams hated him b/c of how physical he would play. My comparison was more along those line, not the flopping. People called Najera dirty, like they do Smart, but it wasn't for the exact same reasons.
 
The comparisons to Blake and Najera are off the mark, in my opinion. Both were physical players in college, but neither focused on trying to draw bogus whistles as Smart does -- certainly not with the frequency that Smart does. And neither was coddled by the officials as Smart is. That, as much as anything, is where the resentment comes from. Inexplicably, he gets away with that nonsense. The fans see it. The announcers call him on it (I don't think I ever heard an official accuse Blake or Najera of flopping during the time in Norman). But the officials just keep blowing their whistles. It's understandably frustrating to anyone not sporting orange clothing.

I don't recall Najera being a flopper, but Blake...? Come on.

He's a renowned flopper.... if you haven't noticed the discussion in the media and among fans then you haven't been paying attention, or (more likely) you're just turning a blind eye.

I'm not talking about his pro career -- I specified that I was talking about his college career. And there's no way he was on his back six times and seven a game the way Smart is.

Smart has already shot ten more free throws this season than Blake did his freshman year -- and no one's using the hack-a-Smart strategy against him, as they did against Blake.

Blake was not the flopper in college he is in the NBA.

Plus, refs don't call fouls in the post in college. Blake (like most dominant big men in college) got ABUSED without getting a call every game. It's MUCH easier to get a call as a guard.

EXACTLY!!!!!!! Blake got beat down virtually every game he played in college. Guys delivered karate chops to the back of his head, and some didn't even draw a foul call.

Najera was nothing close to a flopper. Just because a guy perfects the art of drawing charges( a very useful skill at all levels), doesn't make him a flopper.

Najera was too tough and too physical to walk around with a flopper label.

I have heard opposing fans call him many things, but never a flopper.

NBA guys like Steve Nash use charge taking as a means of equaling the defensive disadvantage they often deal with.

Honestly, watch the replay of the second half. I bet there was one segment where he was on the floor 7 times straight. It's on tape, just watch it.

Well, Smart had better get a better jump shot, LOL. So the funny thing about the game tonight is that you could tell the refs had heard all the fuss over Smart and his flopping. All the anouncers talking about it and ESPN and I'm sure Altman had been in their ear before the game. Smart actually didn't do any of that crap the first half BUT then started it when they got desperate in the 2nd half. I thought it was sooooo funny when he ACTED like the Oregon player had hit him in the face with an elbow and then flopped on the ground - the refs went to the replay to check it AND the Spingler player walked up to one of the refs and you could read his lips (and the announcers told you what he said too) he said "I didn't touch him - He FLOPPED". I did laugh out loud when I saw that. Well, no more fun pointing out oswho's issues.

GO SOONERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

When the officials were reviewing that call in the second half, you could see the Oregon player saying, "He flopped!"
