No way you can say it isn't a risk especially when you consider part of the reason why he was so appealing to USC was because of a lot more then just basketball reasons.

Maybe a small risk, probably not as big a risk as Joe took a few years back.

1.) USC has never had a great program so nothing is on the line as far as that goes.
2.) Enfield won at FGCU without any players who could have been recruited by a pac 12 level program. It's not like he was stealing recruits from Duke or Kansas.
3.) He's been a head coach before who won games.
4.) He was an assistant at the college level for 5 years.
5.) An assistant in the NBA for 6 years.
6.) Not just an asst but a shooting coach in the NBA.
7.) self made millionaire from private businesses which he started

That's an impressive resume. If he isn't successful it's because he loses focus of coaching a team due to all the glitz/glamour of hollywood/Southern California.

I think it's a good choice by SC. Still kinda makes me sad though because I was hoping he'd build a dynamo at FGCU. That would be a good story.

He's already got millions and millions stuffed away so the money wasn't a big deal to him. Mustang is correct.

According to Wikipedia, while he was a shooting coach in the nba, he started a company that sold videos teaching his basketball techniques. Then while he was on the Celtics staff, he was one of the first employees of TractManager and invested in it.

Stories came out during the tournament that he is not as wealthy as he was made out to be. He was quoted as saying he still has to work. So the money was a thing for him.

Unless the guy walked away from Tract Manager with $25 million +, then the money would be something. My assumption is he got used to living a lifestyle that is above his salary at FGCU.

If thats the case I am certainly happy for him. However, I was kind of intrigued with the story of the wealthy guy who dind't hafta worry about money and was merely pursuing his passion as a college basketball coach wanting to build a program.

That may still be the case but FGCU was the better story. I am interested to see what he can do with better athletes at USC though.
