So, Why Don't YOU Come to the Games?

I think that's gotta be either a lie or mistake.
We played Texas Pan-American that day, and it was during winter break. There's no way in hell there were over 13,000 people there.

You are probably correct if we are talking about butts that were in seats. However to my knowledge OU has been reporting both attendance (tickets sold) and estimated attendance (turnstile attendance) for about the last 3-4 years. Therefore the 13,341 number was for tickets sold and that team was undefeated (7-0) and ranked #7 in the country. They also sold 13,093 tickets for their previous home game against Jackson State (MS) on 12/20/03.

The reality is when you have 3,623-5,074 no shows for the last 5 conference games of a team that has gone 23-8 your real problem is not facility environment or ticket cost it is primarily fan attitude. Too many casual fans that care very little about college basketball. Even the well attended games are driven by school rivalries not demand to see a competitive basketball game against a conference opponent.

Net, net selling tickets is not a problem getting butts in seats is, always has been. Not enough true basketball fans and averaging about 8,000 for conference games is about as much as we can ever hope for and two more years of attendance growth comparable to this year will get us there.

in that time frame 2000-2004 OU was sold out of season tickets (student and fan) .. 11500+

The attendance record for LNC is 13,341 achieved 12/29/03. With an official capacity of 12,000 that would indicate they sold at least 1,351 SRO tickets.

my brother-in-law used to buy SRO tickets because that was all he could get for the KU and bedlam games. He remembers in 97 he (either him or somebody with him) was standing on the wall in SRO so he could see the last shot that Erdmann missed that would have won or tied the game. He said SRO was 2 people deep in most places.

I was at the Texas Pan-Am game in December, 2003. I took my grandmother to the game. They gave away a crap load of seats for free that day, and the upper level was nearly full. Butts in seats probably about 9,000. It was a shockingly good atmosphere for a December game against a puff team.

If memory serves, Bob Hoffman may have been coaching them.

13,300 may have been tickets sold, but you'd have to count the cockroaches if you wanted it to be the attendance.

That is correct on all counts (UT-Pan Am, Hoffman's team, not a full house). As I recall, OU also struggled to win that game before pulling away to win by 15.
