The new coach, Matt Potter, hired from Washington State, has now had two years at OU: 7-9-4 and 4-13-1. It would seem that now would be a time for improvement.

Apparently, they have had a better than average recruiting year:

Ten new recruits include some who appear to be more athletic than their predecessors. In addition, a transfer from Oregon State, http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArt...46&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=31000&ATCLID=209521899
should provide some experience.

It would be nice to see a winning record this year.

I agree. It seems that sometimes during coaching changes, that the coaches, their personality and philosophies are so different that a lot of players leave or just don't fit in with the new team, have to start over. It appears this has happened in this instance as well. But this year is time to make great strides of improvement. We have facilities that are just about as good as anywhere in the country and decent fan support, in spite of the mediocre results on the field. Really hope this is the year they take off upward!

Want to win, better start recruiting Southern California. As with softball, talent abounds.

Matt Potter should have very good recruiting connections in California. If you look at the Washington State rosters his last two years he had five California players on his 2011-12 roster and ten California players on his 2010-11 roster (12 total with duplicates).

He also recruited the Phoenix, AZ area were he had been a JC coach (Scottsdale) heavily as he had five and six players from Arizona on his last two WSU squads. For those last two years he had more players from California on his rosters (12) than any other state (Washington 8, Arizona 8).

OU finished last and is picked to finish last. The only way to go is up.

Glad to hear that. If I were to make a recommendation, it would be to develop a reputation as an offensive minded team. A lot of coach's build from the back line. I think quality goal scorers are out there, many ending up at smaller schools because coaches often look for the bigger, more physical athletes. I think the PAC 10 schools have overlooked some really good SoCal talent over the years.

In 2013, OSU beat us twice, 1-4 in Stillwater, and 1-2 in OT in Norman.

I haven't watched the second half yet. In the first half, it was rather clear that OU had a better organized offense. OSU kept getting one person down, usually on the left, but there was nobody in front. They took some rather weak shots at goal, often from a distance or a bad angle. But, they didn't get good pressure except on one or two occasions.

OU didn't exactly control the flow of the game, but when OU did get near the goal, it seemed that there was somebody in front of the goal. It wasn't a one-man show on the attack. Usually, three or more were involved in creating possibilities. We weren't really all that good at maintaining possession for a long period of time.

I thought we also played better defending the goal. The goal-keeper got a lot of the credit. But, there were others near the goal to deflect shots or the attack. The biggest problem that the goal-keeper had was the sun. In the first half, a shot that forced her to look into the sun had a chance.

The OSU goal-keeper simply misplayed the second goal. If OSU is to finish third, they will need to improve. OU looked like a better-coached team.

Oklahoma is without Courtney Dike who is with the Nigerian U-20 team in the World Cup Final on Sunday. OSU will be a better offensive team when she returns to the team next week.

Sooners beat #6 Florida tonight, 2-1. I thought this might be a breakout year but I had thought that a few other times as well. Very young team but playing pretty well so far. #2 Florida State visits John Crain Field on Sunday.

Games thus far:
OU 2 OSU 0
OU 1 Utah 1 OT
OU 2 Florida 1

OU scored early in the first half. Then, after being tackled in the penalty box, OU got a penalty kick to take a 2-0 lead. OU barely played offense after that as Florida spent the next 37 minutes attacking. With the exception of the one goal, they really didn't get that close. They could keep it in the OU end of the field, but had difficulty getting it in front of the goal.
