Watching the game yesterday against Kansas I really didn't understand (not that I still do) why Montgomery wasn't behind the plate.

OU senior Whitney Montgomery, the Sooners’ primary catcher the previous two seasons and early this season, has left the program, coach Patty Gasso confirmed Friday.
Montgomery started 20 games for the Sooners this spring and appeared in 23 games, the last of which was the 4-2 win over No. 23 Nebraska on March 20 in Easton Tournament in Fullerton, California. Montgomery came to the Sooners from Yukon High School, and earned all-conference second team in 2014. She was having her best statistical season this year offensively, hitting at a .364 clip in limited at bats.
“She’s made a decision for personal reasons that it is best for her to not be a part of the team,” Gasso said. “It was too hard for her. It just didn’t fit into what her priorities were.”
Gasso added that this is not a temporary decision and that Montgomery has will not return to the OU program. In her absence, sophomore Lea Wodach has carved out the starting catcher role. She leads team with a .414 batting average and 15 walks. Wodach, an outfielder, has been replaced by a host of players, including freshmen Shay Knighten and Caleigh Clifton.
“When something like that happens to your team, you can either sink or you can swim,” Gasso said. “These guys decided to do more than swim. They decided to say ‘hey, let’s bond together and see what we can do,’ and they’ve been on a roll. We’ve always said there’s not one player that we can’t win without and we believe that. There’s no one player bigger than this program, so we just keep going.”
