I saw on ouinsider that the softball team also has a 8th grader committed in Brooke Vestal(6'0",Tx,63mph fastball).

This girl, Brooke Vestal, also has an 11-year old sister who is also a softball player and she is already 5'10. There is an interesting story on the Student Sports Softball site about Brooke and her commitment to OU. Also, this site rates the top 100 players in each class. OU's 2015 class has been rated the No. 1 class in the country. According to the site, OU has the numbers 3,4,18,53, and 60 players. This does not include the two Oklahoma players in this class who possibly should be ranked in the top 100.

When i lived in Vegas and my daughter was playing softball there was a girl that was about that age that was big and tall and threw absolute smoke. I always wanted what happened to her.

And those 12 without the best player in the nation (Chamberlain).

I still feel that we don't have the pitching and offense to win the conference this year although I expect us to make a strong run. I am surprised at the emergence of hitters like Self and Ellis and how Stevens has improved but it will take a real superb coaching job to win it this year.

I agree. You have to have superb pitching and hitting to win at a high level. While our bats have been hot lately, I don't see the great hitting from top to bottom we really need to make a strong run. We don't have the elite pitching this year either.

You're not going to get a much better coach than Patty Gasso. If it can be done she can do it. She demands the best of her players and they respond to it. Her recruiting is off the charts. With the #1 recruiting class coming in there's no limit to their possibilities! Boomer Sooner!

+1. We are in a bit of a rebuilding year but there will be more championships in the future as long as Patty keeps doing what she's doing.

The Big Twelve is a possibility since the league is down this year.

I didn't really expect a repeat of our title season after graduating our two outstanding pitchers. However, I just don't think you can count out Gasso and her Sooners, especially if Chamberlain is able to recover in time for a possible stretch run. I fully expect us to make the CWS, and if we do, who knows what might happen.

I agree!

Stevens may need another year of experience before she can take us to the finals. She is somewhat at the same stage as Ricketts was as a sophomore: good, but not unhittable. Also, she has no help, and I think Gascoigne led the nation in ERA last year, as well as pitch the championship game. It's probably a bit premature to think we can challenge for a title this year. With the Big Twelve down a notch, it is a possibility.

I think we have some help coming in this Fall.

Paige Parker from Missouri is a big lefty coming in next year. She is already drawing some Ricketts comparisons. I'll wait to see that. They say she can bring the heat and has some good movement along with it. Gasso says she will help immediately on the mound. I'm excited to see Pendley's little sister, she's supposed to be a heck of a player too.

After beating Baylor 3-2, OU has two more at Waco, but has an 8-0 record in conference play. Texas is 5-1 having lost to Tech. Baylor is 3-2, Texas comes to OU next weekend for a three-game set that will likely decide the conference title.

NCAA ranking:
13. Baylor
17. Oklahoma
27. Texas
37. Kansas

We beat KU three in a row. We have now beaten Baylor with two left.

Our record against the top teams in the nation:

#15 Kentucky, lost in season opener in ten.
#11 Arizona State, lost
#23 Washington, lost
#3 UCLA, lost
#9 Louisiana-Lafayette, lost two of three
#20 Tulsa, won in Norman
#25 LSU, won two of two in Norman
#10 Nebraska, split two in Norman

Stevens pitched a one-hit shutout, and OU wins its fourteenth in a row, ninth in the Big Twelve (9-0). Texas is 6-1 after winning over Iowa State. Baylor is 3-3.

Both OU runs came in the fifth with four singles, the last two by Self and Pendley to drive in a run each. OU wins 2-0.

Kelsey pitched one heck of a ballgame. The defense was outstanding behind her. They put enough runs up to win another tough one. You can't count this bunch out of any game they play. Hopefully they can get the sweep tomorrow.

Kelsey is a bit more like Michelle than Ricketts. She gets the ball over the plate. She doesn't have great stuff, like Ricketts. But, she doesn't seem to get herself into jams due to control. It looks like they should be able to hit her, but they really don't get good wood on the ball often.

When Baylor hit the same balls that we used for the rally, we caught them. They didn't have the tight defense. Their pitcher was the best part of their game. I think they may be accustomed to living off her pitching and a couple of really good hitters who can't seem to break through.

Self drove in the go-ahead run, and she had five at bats last year.
