In my opinion that was a mistake by Patty not to have Williams bunt with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. We would have likely scored on that long fly by Casey.

Yes! Oregon will be really tough but I'm just glad to get this win and advance.

I think Gasso thought Williams hitting a double or home run was more likely than anything by Casey. With the exception of the home run against the sub pitcher last week, Casey has been in a slump and can't get the ball out of the infield. She is taking pitches that she normally kills and swinging at crap, usually high stuff.

To address the second part of my question, what, in y'all's opinion, would have been the result had the Kentucky batting coach instructed his batters to step out of the box?

LOL. I guess my question was answered in today's game. Ump didn't allow the timeout. Patty steamed over it, but Williams' 2 RBI hit took some of the sting out of the ump's refusal to honor Miller's timeout.

Wow, what can you say about Stevens? She really toughed it out in a game in which she obviously didn't have her best control or stuff, and kept us armchair fans on the edge of our seats all afternoon.

On to another elimination game tonight against Oregon. Hope that they don't have a good game and we play lights out!

I would like to see us get the bats off our shoulders on the first pitch. That is normally the best pitch you will get to hit.

OU is the #7 seed, and is one of the last 6 teams standing. Looking forward to a good OU-Oregon game late tonight.

We have already exceeded any reasonable expectations for the year, and we did it with injuries to the two best hitters on the team in terms of bat control. But, like any irresponsible fan, I certainly would like more.

Well stated, Syb. I concur, OU women have done VERY well. And next season augurs well for a repeat trip to OKC.

Should be a good game tonight, but we'll have to play better than we played this afternoon to beat the Ducks. I'm confident we will be ready.

My main concern with the Sooners in this do-or-die situation is the mini-slump Destinee's been in lately. We need Martinez to start getting on base in front of Lauren. This not only gives Lauren a chance to do what she does best: drive in runs, but it also makes it more difficult for the opposing pitcher to pitch around Chamberlain.

We need the first five in our batting order to do what we're accustomed to seeing them do.

I wish Patty would move Lauren down to 3rd or 4th in the batting order where it is more likely runners would be on base for Lauren to drive in.

That's something I've considered also, Norm. It certainly makes sense to me. Of course, this is Patty's team and I'm not about to second guess her or her judgement.

I can remember from the fifties that there used to be statistical experts (can't say computer experts really from that era) who kept insisting that you should bat Willie Mays leadoff. Get as many home runs as you can. I notice that there is more of a tendency to do this in women's softball than in baseball or men's softball, but you don't see many home runs in men's softball.

Who is hitting well enough right now to put in front of Lauren? Right now, Lauren--Pendley--Williams seems to be our offense. We need Kady. I might put Erin ahead of Lauren, maybe Callie.

Didn't Patty bat Turang in the nine-hole last season, with Lauren following in the leadoff spot?

We must get the bats going against Oregon or it could be all over. Hopefully, they get it done.

Baylor just showed us how. I hope our hitters were watching. Down 7-0 going into the bottom of the sixth, Baylor scored three and four runs to tie, 7-7. Going to extra innings. They made one change in their approach. They quit swinging at the rise ball. That's all it took. Don't swing at the rise ball. You almost never hit it, and you just get popups and strikeouts.

We have played two rise ball pitchers in a row, and Renfro also featured a rise. We haven't been able to hit the rise of Traina and the LaLafayette pitcher.

Actually, our seven, eight, and nine hitters were designed to get on base: Martinez, Parsons, Turang.

Baylor won it in the eighth with a leadoff double, followed by an error on a sac attempt to let the winning run score.

Message: lay off the rise ball.

Baylor had an amazing comeback from being down 7-0 to win it 8-7. I'm glad they won because other than OU, the Big 12 wasn't looking good. We now have two teams still in it which is good.
