CurTiera Haywood, Mustang
After a season of maturing with a young roster, it appears Mustang has grown up.
Last week, Mustang showed why with an upset of then-No. 8 Westmoore behind sophomore CurTiera Haywood, The Oklahoman’s Girls Basketball Player of the Week.
She scored 20 points, including 13 in the first half, in the 62-34 victory. She helped pull down big rebounds as the combination of her 6-2 frame and Abby Nieheus’ long frame were overpowering for Westmoore.
The most impressive part of the upset was that Mustang was without junior point guard Mia Brown. The Broncos somehow managed to slow down Oklahoma commitment Jessi Murcer, holding her to just eight points.
Mustang also beat Moore 61-44 earlier in the week with Haywood scoring 10. Senior Logan Haller added 20 points.
