Is the disintegration of Capel's coaching staff. It has arguably gotten worse each year. Rather than go out and get respected staffers this past season, he just promoted from within. Im not sure those guys on the bench are helping the situation.

You put yourself in a pretty tough situation if

A. you're a young, supposedly still learning head coach
B. you bring in nine new guys
C. you break in two new assistants that don't have much experience in those particular roles.

Capel really did himself no favors by promoting from within

Good point OULad. He lost the main coaches who allowed him to be successful at VCU. He had two great assistants that were good recruiters, one who scoured the landscape for guards, the other for big men. Gerald White was the guard coach, and found 1000 point scorers like B.A. Walker, Jesse Pellot-Rosa and Jamal Shuler. If you don't know about these guys just ask Duke '07 tourney. Coach Cline was his big man coach. I'm not sure what happened between White and Capel before he came to OU, but randomly White resigned to look for "other business opportunities". Cline as we know left this summer. No coach can do it alone, and certainly not with the same guys who were already here in lower jobs and now just have more responsibility.

This was talked about when he filled the spots last year with unknown people. I said at the time those hires were another nail in the coffin for Capel.
