Sooners need to avoid overconfidence

Overconfidence is my biggest fear for this game, but I fully expect the guys to be ready to play.

They need to play each game as if it were their last. If they feel exhausted afterwards then that is the price which needs to be paid.

They should be confident. Play with swagger. Know if you bring it KSU has no shot. Confidently kick their ass! Up in their grill for 40 minutes. Attacking on offense. Owning the boards.

I agree. I don't understand people that fear confidence.

After watching KU the other night I think OU has the most complete starting 5 in the Big 12.

That being said I think LK is too good a coach to let these guys be overconfident.

I doubt any other team has a starting five where all five guys have gone for 20 points in a night. Everyone in OU's starting lineup has done that in D-1 ball. More impressively, they have all (excluding Thomas) put up 15+ numerous times against Big XII competition.

I would also guess that no team has four starters that have logged double doubles. Cousin and Hield have both done it.

I agree with Denver re: confidence. The Sooners are a very good team and deserve to be confident that they can win every time they take the court in the Big 12. I obviously believe we'll beat KSU Saturday to go 3-0 in the league.

What does concern me (a little) is what could happen if Foster plays the way he did most of last season. If he gets hot from beyond the arc and one of his teammates also has a good shooting night, the Cats could suddenly become formidable.

I think we are all aware that KSU has enough decent-to-good players that they could catch fire in conference play. (I'm not sure I can say the same for the KSU coaching).

I agree, play hard and play with the confidence any good team should have after beating a top ten team on the road. KSU has enough talent to make it interesting if OU is not ready to play. But this OU team seems to understand what they need to do to beat any opponent they face. I see no reason for concern.

Confidence, arrogance and a lack of respect for opponents are all different things. No college team should fail to respect or overlook an opponent. If you do and that opponent, even when vastly overmatched in talent, plays well than can win.

I want OU to be confident but I want that confidence to be based on the fact they are well prepared and know they can beat just about anybody when they play at the level they have demonstrated against Baylor, Texas and some of their other opponents.

Well said! I agree 100%.
