The recognition our military veterans received throughout the proceedings was truly special. So was the effort OU players made after the game to shake their hands and exchange greetings with them. That really wasn't a surprise, it was just a repeat of what our players do after every game in the LNC.

I was also pleased to see the players from both teams with their hands across their collective hearts during the National Anthem. That's a far cry from the nonchalant, bored body language we see from NBA players when the National Anthem is performed. That's just one of the many reasons the NBA will never take the place of college basketball in the hearts of hoops fans like me.

I really appreciated that the players did that. Those WWII veterans are pretty much all 90+ years old. To be treated with respect in dignity probably meant a lot to them.
