Over the past month the Sooners have hosted some talented members of the Class of 2013 in Norman.

Will Jennings caught up with Treshawn Bolden (Mississippi), Marcus Foster (Wichita Falls, TX), Juwan Parker (Tulsa Washington) and Jordan Woodard (Edmond Memorial) to see how their visits went.

Update

This 2013 class is SUPER important. As big as it is, we can't afford a bunch of mistakes, or kids that leave the program, or underachieve. Luckily for LK, there is a ton of state and local talent, and LK is hitting it hard.

Woodard and Parker are musts. I hate that term, b/c everybody is replaceable, but those two are the keys to class. Get them, pair them with Hield and Hornbeak, and we have some very good guards. Guards win basketball games. I like what I read about the Bolden kid too. Sounds like he'd fit our system nicely.

A couple of additional notes on this story: I don't like to speculate on leaders but OU is in good shape with both Woodard and Parker. This staff wants to recruit kids that are serious about being Sooners and not kids who just want to add schools to their list. They don't just offer any kid unless they feel they have a chance. Also spoke to a source that had the chance to see Buddy Hield upclose and personal and this source feels that Hield has improved immensly and has the makings to be an All Big12 player at some point as a Sooner. The source told me it looked as if Buddy added 20lbs and even an inch or two.

With the work that Sam and I have been doing on the OKHoops website, we have had the chance to see Marcus Foster a lot. He was a participant at one of our camps and we covered the Elite14 shootout in Wichita Falls, that his high school hosts. Don Hedge, Foster's coach is a close friend of mine and he feels that Foster is just scratching the surface. Hedge feels that he can be a Marcus Smart type player, but with a better jump shot. The Hirschi head coach thinks that Foster has the talent to lead them to a title run in 3A Texas. Sam and I saw first hand what Foster can do as he scored 11 points and a game winning dunk in 3 minutes against a talent PC West team that lead Hirschi by double digits.

One last note, the staff has really taken a look an instate talent. Omega Harris made an unofficial visit to Norman on the heels of his career high 26pt performance against rival Putnam City Original. The skilled sophomore from PC West is quickly striking up a friendship with current Sooner Steven Pledger.

Great stuff guys. Thanks so much for posting.

Thanks Will. Getting Boldin out of SEC country would be a nice coup.

Foster looks really good. I haven't seen Bolden yet but I live down here and Calloway always has very athletic players.

Outstanding report, guys! Thanks for your hard work. :clap

I love how our coaches have developed a relationhship with local kids in an effort to keep the state's best prospects at home. I also like how they target guards with multiple skills. That seems to be a trademark of the type of player LK recruits to his system.

With the talent available in Oklahoma's 2013 class, OU could potentially fill their basic recruiting needs without crossing the state line. Not saying we should do that. But if Coach Kruger and his staff can somehow land three to four of the best this state has to offer, I'll be a happy man. Foster would be a nice addition, too. I like what I saw of him on the video!

M. Foster is not only a Basketball talent, he's also a quality kid from a good home. He'd be a great addition and a "Kruger" type player.

I view this next recruiting class as exceptionally important to Kruger and OU. A good class should right the ship and bring OU back to a Top 4 program in the conerence. If OU lands three of these guards, the Sooners are going to be loaded in the backcourt. They will be young but very talented. Just imagine a back court of Cam Clark, Hield, Hornbeak, Woodard, Parker and Foster. OU will also have M'Baye, Henry, Neal and 4 other players to be determined.

This thread got me thinking about what we really need out of this class, and what are reasonable expectations.

As the roster stands right now, and assuming Cole gets a scholarship in 2013-2014 (and we don't sign anybody else in 2012 to fill Newell's spot), we'll have 6 additional scholarships available for the 2013 class. It might be smart to save one of them (to help break the classes up going forward), but I think it's safe to say we'll be after a minimum of 5 players in this class.

Here is what we'll return for that season:

Guards:
Hield - So
Hornbeak - So
Clark - Sr

Posts:
Neal - Sr
Henry - So
Cole - So
M'Baye - Sr

It appears to me that we'll need a pretty even distribution of guards and posts in this class.

It is obvious that the staff is making Woodard and Parker a priority, and from what I know of these two players, I agree with that decision. These two guys are buddies, they are local, and they are good kids. While Woodard doesn't have the pure scorer's mentality that a guy like Stevie Clark has, I prefer Woodard's game and size. Parker is another kid that can score it multiple ways, and again, has size. These are the two "must haves" in this class, in my opinion.

Another Oklahoma kid that is "close" to Woodard and Parker is Shaq Morris. I haven't seen him play, and have seen his height listed as everything from 6'5 to 6'8, but I think he'd be a good fit. He is likely a kid that could use a year to mature before being expected to contribute anything meaningful. And with what OU returns, and hopefully signs in addition to Morris, that would be possible.

So those are the three Oklahoma kids I'd like to land. Woodard, Parker, and Morris.

As much as I'd like to land Randle, and I do think we have a chance, I'm trying to keep my list of preferences as realistic as possible. As such, I won't include him on my list.

I really like a kid out of Texas named Dominic Woodson. 6'9, 265 pounds, out of Round Rock. I worry that his game is too close to Morris for OU to take both of them though. So I guess I'd like one of Woodson/Morris. Treshawn Bolden is a kid mentioned in Sam's article. I think he really fits what LK wants out of his posts, and he has us high on his list.

Where does that leave us? With six scholarships available, here is who I'd like to grab:

1. Jordan Woodard - PG
2. Juwan Parker - 2/3
3. Treshawn Bolden - 4/5 (more of a 4, probably)
4. Morris/Woodson - 4/5 (both are probably 5's)

If we get those 4, I almost don't care who we sign for the last spot or two. I'd even be okay offering bigabd a scholarship. Depending on how the staff views Hornbeak, we may need another option at point guard. We could go sign a JUCO which would allow us to bring Woodard along slowly, or we could grab a kid like Stevie Clark, or Kendall Harris. Always tough to land multiple true pg's in the same class though. We might also be in need of another big that can play immediately. A lot will depend on what, if anything, Cole can offer us, and how college-ready LK thinks the above guys are.

No new information in this post, but I wanted to lay out what our situation might look like for the 2013 season/class. If Hornbeak is going to play point guard, we might not have much of a drop off at all, as both he and Hield will likely get experience next year. We could open 2013 with Hornbeak at the point, Hield at the 2, Cam at the 3, and M'Baye at one of the post spots. That would leave Henry/Neal/Cole and any newcomers fighting for the other post spot.

I really like the direction the program appears to be headed. LK seems to know that you can't just stick a bunch of talent on the floor, but that you have to build a complete team. I also took that approach in picking my preferences above. Landing Randle would be awesome, but I didn't want to count on that happening. I think OU has a really good shot at everybody listed above, especially the Oklahoma boys.

Nice breakdown, WT! I'm on board with your picks for the top three or four spots in our 2013 class. I prefer home state kids who have more to play for than the typical recruit that can't relate as well to the pride local kids feel when they put on a Sooner uniform. We're fortunate that the 2013 class is one of the strongest the state has seen in years. If we can sign our share, we'll have a solid base to build on in the years ahead.

As for bigabd, I can see a spot on the staff in his future. I think something like, "assistant in charge of JUCO scouting" might be a good fit. It would certainly be better than taking up space on the bench as a player. We don't need more undersized guards on our roster. The JUCO scout assignment would also give him something to do to keep him out of trouble while he's on the road with his current job. ;)

Dang! Bolden has some skills for a big kid. He reminds me a little of Blake the way he dribbles through his legs before taking smaller defenders to the hole.

Our coaching staff has us in on some big time recruits in 2013.

Bolden looks more like a 3. A below the rim frontcourt player.

How is a below the rim front court player a 3? I think of a 3 as a guy that gets to the rim and makes outside shots. I think of a below the rim front court player as Abercrombie, William Davis or Fitzgerald. Those guys are not 3s.

WT,
Ideally, add a post or PG to end this class. Supposedly Lon's interested in adding a transfer player.

Like the breakdown of players. But definitely feel like we need to add at least two legit big players.
Bolden sounds like one real potential player at 3/4.
Balancing any real potential to get Randle versus making sure to get that 2nd big will be tough.

Some people think everybody is a 3. Cracks me up.

I like what little I saw of Bolden. He's a 4/5 at this level which is what we need.
