Spangler

The only major conference team to offer Spangler a scholarship was Colorado, so it wasn't just Capel. Hopefully Spangler ends up being great for OU.

Conference be damned, gonzaga is #1 in the Country. They are a high major team

So, OU should be going after Boise State level recruits in football?

If the turn out like Doug Martin Absolutly, Lets not act like Boise is just void of talent in football. They did beat us in a fiesta bowl

Yes they did, but that has nothing to do with the point I was making.

Point I was making is there are good players and maybe OU should offer some of them. A good player that was to work hard to be great can be better than a Great player that wants everything handed to them

Of course, but OU and every other program will miss kids, even in their backyard, it happens all the time in every sport. Doesn't mean it doesn't sting when it happens though. The threads about Tyrus McGee popped up a few weeks back about how OU should have recruited him, Capel/Kruger missed him, etc, but then someone went back and found the really old posts about him and each and every poster who posted in those threads said McGee wasn't good enough for OU. Hindsight is 20/20.

Anyone that has actually seen him play knows this is overboard. He'll be a nice addition, but never a star.

I have seen him play many times - followed him thru HS, watched him play in the WCC Tourn. last year with Gonzaga and got to see Gonzaga against WV last year in the first round of the NCAA Tourn and Spangler had 20 plus minutes. I will tell you that the statement by the Zag fan is correct, he will be missed at Gonzaga and he will be one heck of a player for LK and OU. CompOUUnder, how many times have you seen him play? By the way, I have been a Zag fan for many years along with being an OU grad. who loves the Sooner, and we got a jewel when Spangler transfered.

Hate to even brings this up, but didn't Gonzaga beat us this year and are currently ranked #1. Gonzaga has one of the top programs in BB year in and year out.

Wow, thanks!

Their program is still mostly under the radar recruits

Gonzaga didn't just beat OU, they beat OSU, KSU, Baylor and WVU. Worse they beat everyone fairly convincingly except OSU and arguably Baylor (WVU lost by 34, OU lost by 25, Baylor lost by 7, KSU lost by 16 and OSU lost by 1 point).

Denver, you are correct, I was just trying not to pour to much salt on the wound. I have, and always will be a Sooner Fan that keeps up with BB, and it really bothers me when people get on here and talk about teams or players they really don't know that much about. I hope that the Sooners can get to a point where they are competetive year in and year out as Gonzaga has done. They got my attention several years ago when they became a Cinderella team and I have kept up with them since then, when OU was not playing.

10-15 years ago that might have been true but I don't think it is today.

Gonzaga is very much on the radar. They have been to the tournament every year since 1999. They have probably been the most consistent program in and west of the Rocky Mountains. Arizona and UCLA have gone further in the NCAA Tournament but I am not sure they have been as consistent as Gonzaga.

I suspect Gonzaga is very well known with recruits and high school coaches in the West and Rocky Mountain Regions. I really don't see how they couldn't be.

No one has hung the best player in the gym moniker on Spangler this season. Everyone that has seen Spangler in the gym these last few months thinks he is going to be a good one.

I posted a nice little review a week or so ago on what I had seen Spangler doing. That wasn't just my opinion. I was standing next to one of the assistant coaches and said to him that I thought that I was looking at what was going to be a pretty good college basketball player. And asked him if I was seeing it right. I got a nice piece of candid feedback on Spangler and Bennett. Then I posted it.

On that particular day, Spangler was in the gym a full 40 minutes early working witha grad ass. drilling his butt off. About every other day it is Bennett. This late in the season during their redshirt year is an impressive statement.

The next one on the court way early was Grooms, then Cousins, then Osby, and then M'Baye. Buddy was getting a bone scan or he would have been there early too. The rest of them straggled in from 5-8 minutes early to just in time.

Spangler fit in just fine with the #1 team in the country. The 1st round draft choice and the other 7 footer would have gotten the nod over him this season. No surprise there.

I would like to think that these early knockers on Spangler just don't have the information that they need to make a quality decision. Or at least, I hope that is the case.

I know when Spangler signed with Gonzaga, I was visiting with a college BB Coach at one of the smaller colleges here in Okla. and he said he could not believe that Gonzaga came all the way to Okla. to recruit a player. The coach went on to say he thought it was quite an honor for Spangler to even get their attention, much less Gonzaga offering. Gonzaga recruits alot Internationally, and from the West Coast, and very seldom do they come down to our part of the world.

I am on mobile so I cannot look up their recruiting classes and rankings

I think it goes without saying that the Zags have recruited well in the last 8 to 10 years. Mark Few and his staff do a good job of evaluating talent and bringing in kids who can contribute to the team's success. That's why they have been ranked in the top 25 consistently in the last few years, and the reason they're at the top of the polls now. If the Zag coaches saw something special in Spangler, that tells me he has the potential to be a pretty good player in time.

havent they only made the sweet 16 like twice or something ridiculous in like that last 12 years or something (i heard some crazy stat about that)... they suck and will go down as one of the worst 1 seeds ever imo

14 1 seeds have lost in the 2nd round. all they have to do is win two games for that not to be true.

I just hope we get to where they are here in the near future!!
