Start of conference schedule laid out perfectly for us

Looking at the conference schedule, I think the start of the conference schedule is laid out pretty good for our team. Going to Mizzou right off the bat won't be easy, but I bet not many of us penciled that in as a win anyway.

However, the next 2 games are KU in Norman, and that looks very winnable right now considering how bad KU has been playing. Then we get OSU in Stillwater which is good timing for that game too as they have talent but have not been able to put it together. Maybe we catch both teams before they are able to gain some momentum and steal 2 wins that most of us probably didn't think were probable at the beginning of the season.

The next 2 games after that are KSU and Tech in Norman. KSU will be tough for sure, but we can beat Tech and I think if we beat KU and OSU, we could also beat KSU with a little luck.

I hope you're right. When I first saw the conference schedule, namely the first 3 games, I was pretty worried. That looked like a guaranteed 0-3 to start the year. Not so much now.

interesting angle, nice work

That's an interesting thought. It's still a tough stretch to play Mizzou, KU and K-State in the first four games, as those are 3 of the top 5 teams in the conference. But, it'll be trial by fire and we can get a good gauge of how good the team is. If they can beat Okie State and win 1 or 2 games against Mizzou, KU, and K-State that'll put them in a good position. The last 7 games of conference play are pretty winnable aside from at Baylor. It's not inconceivable to think we could go 5-2 or 6-1 if we're playing well.

Last 7:
at Texas Tech
vs. Texas
at Iowa State
vs. Oklahoma state
at Baylor
vs. Texas
vs. Texas A&M

I'd rather have started off with a Tech, ISU type early schedule, and then ease into those games.
That way, we come out of those games around .500 in the Big 12 and still with confidence, rather than 0-3 or something to start league play, and have the guys get down on the team.

If we can go 1-2(in those big 3 games) to start I will be happy. Those are 3 very tough games but having early home games always helps. IF we have fans there, that would be a big advantage for this crew.

Just my thoughts.

KU has a lot of problems right now. That game and OSU in Stillwater are both very winnable at this point in time. KU is very overrated.

is kansas overated? yes. By how much? I'm not sure.

I know they played a really good kentucky close away from home
They beat Georgetown who looks pretty good so far
They beat UCLA
The played duke close
They lost to Ohio State. No shame in that
They have laid clunkers the last 3 games but they have played are pretty tough schedule with a young team. They will only get better.

If memory serves me KU beat a Sullinger-less Ohio state team.

They beat Ohio State. They had a solid lead down the stretch and it really wasn't in question the last minute or two. This is not to say Ohio State couldn't have won late because they were within striking distance but KU never gave them the opportunity or if you prefer Ohio State never took the opportunity. KU won by 11.

yeah my bad.
I think people actually finally see a mortal KU team that doesn't look like a normal KU team so they are jumping in while they can. KU is still talented...just young. And they still have Self how seems to have really good years when it isn't expected.

I still think we can win in norman but i'm not confident in it

Coaching will keep us in the game. If the LNC is rocking and we hit some shots, we can win that game.

I agree KU is going to get better as the season goes along, but the OP stated we were catching them at a good time. They are in disarray right now and it will be to our benefit. Can we take advantage of the situation? I think so, but I won't be down on the team if we don't win.

I would have disagreed with your proposition until I read your post, and now I sort of agree. Could backfire, but if we are going to have a "great year", it might could only happen with this schedule. We catch Kansas and OSU, before they put the pieces together, and then catch some home games. If we can start the conf. season 4-1 or even 3-2, we might find the legs to get us to the house at .500 or better.

Good post.

I love how the people who make these grand propositions go silent after they're DEAD WRONG.

A lot of people have been wrong about a lot of things on this board in the last month.

By the way, we are 0-3 for the 2nd year in a row to start conference play. Last year we responded with a 4-game winning streak. Hopefully the same can happen this year.
