I'm not talking about anything in the abstract like perceived talent, or ceiling, or potential. Nor can I predict the future and know who is yet to emerge. All I am referring to is what has transpired in practice over the last several weeks.
If the game is on the line and the clock is winding down, we need a basket right now. I want Hornbeak to have the ball.
With our mix of guards and their different skills, Hornbeak as a 6th man may not be a bad idea. It may work out just that way. But, at crunch time, I would hate to see him on the bench.
My feeling is that if we had a back-up PG other than Hornbeak that he would be starting in place of Cousins. Kruger is going to have to balance playing Hornbeak and Woodard and until he knows how long Woodard can go or how the foul situation will go with the new rules I bet Hornbeak comes off the bench.
But I agree that he'll be in Cousins place when crunch time comes.
I agree he will be much improved, especially on offense, but from what I"ve seen in practice he's still got the same kryptonite as last year: when he's pressured, especially with an attacking defense he struggles with decision making.
