Starting 5 for exhibition game in a week

There are still several practices to come, but who do you predict will get the starting nod?

Mine

Carl Blair JR
Steve Pledger
Cam Clark
Romero Osby
Andrew Fitzgerald

First off the bench - Sam Grooms

I think this is the starting line up. For me it will be interesting to see how much he uses the bench early in the season. If they truly want to play uptempo it will take 8 guys maybe 9. He'll need a point sub which they have in Grooms Blair, a 2-3 Sub, and a 4/5 sub. Arnet is probably the 4/5 sub.

Early I know he will get a lot in the games and see how they react. After the early season tournament we should get an idea of his main rotation

My only guess would be set plays. You can post up a 2 some, which most college teams don't. There are some minor differences also in fast break transition areas. 3's usually work more mid range and 2's more 3 point line. It would totally be a match up that night kind of thing.

Isnt this the same team minus osby that started last year and did terrible?

Im sorry but I stand by what I have been saying all along and thats blair, pledger, and fitz cannot all be on the court at the same time....they are just to bad of defenders

I like:

Grooms
Newell
Clark
Osby
Fitz

Probably will be this to start the season:

grooms
pledge
clark
osby
fitz

Nick Thompson transferred to Utah Valley State I think.

I can't imagine any scenario in which he could have been a productive Big 12 basketball player.

This...been playing bball my entire life and the only time these two positions weren't doing pretty much the same thing on the offensive end was for specific sets to exploit a matchup.

Agreed. That was the point I was trying to make, that if you want to do something specific like that for a 2 or a 3, you are running a play (set) for them, not just your normal motion offense.

I will also add that I doubt LK is putting in plays to get Cam a mismatch during the first week of practice.

Can you explain what you mean by this? Switch them how?

I ask for a couple of reasons. First, the defense probably won't care where our 2 and 3 is lined up. If they are in man, they'll stick to guarding that same player. Secondly, I've seen VERY few college offenses where the 2 and 3 aren't doing the same things. They generally start on the wings, and make various cuts from there. But there really shouldn't be a difference in what spot he does it from. Also, the college game isn't like the NBA. If Cam is playing the 3, and a small SG gets switched onto him for defense, he can't just go to the post and get easy buckets. That just doesn't happen in college.

I'm just curious what you meant, specifically, by your comment. I may be missing something.

Alot of the time in practice, Kruger will run a play with Pledger and Cam, playing the 2 and 3 respectively, then he will make them switch positions the next time that exact same play is ran, as to throw off the defensive man to man scheme.
