Steve Pledger against good teams

Pledger is a great shooter when he is open, but he never really tries to get open and he RARELY drives to the hoop. Maybe Lon will change that. Saying he has no potential is ****ing stupid though.

I think when you say you know someone's father is participating in a conversation and then insult that father's son it is unacceptable. Perhaps you disagree?

He didn't "insult" sharp's son. He gave an opinion. I, and most people on the board, think he is wrong, but I don't think he voiced his opinion in a disrespectful way.

btw, Pledger is on the board too. Not active in the last year or so, but he is here, and has posted.

Oh, I don't know. Saying that someone who averaged double-figures in points as a sophomore has "no potential" can be conscrued as insulting and disrespectful. I know what I would say to a poster who said that about my son. I'm with Denver on this one.

If Steven or his dad is lurking, all I will say is thank you for your contributions to the OU program to this point. 99% of us loyal fans wish you nothing but continued success, and we look forward to cheering you on the next two years.

Couldn't of said it any better myself!

he is a troll that is not really an OU fan and knows very little about basketball ... don't let him bother you

He may have a little troll in him and Lord knows I have had many an argument with him, but ABD is an OU fan from way back and knows quite a bit about basketball. Even if I think he is wrong most of the time.

Abd basically spends his time posting threads about how great the Iowa States and Nebraskas and Baylors of the league are going to be because of all the sick JUCO recruits they're bringing in. It's not surprisign that he's now saying Stephen Pledger should be sent to the bench for some unproven, unheralded sophomore.

Lets assume that is true. Lets also assume you are correct that Sharp is Steven Pledger's father. Based on those two assumptions, I think it is pretty safe to say you are acting like an @$$. What kind of person would say to a father (even indirectly) that his son (playing for the speakers favorite team) has no potential. It is rude, disrespectful and not what I want or expect from OU fans and alumni.

I truly hope that Steven Pledger, his family and friends know that the vast majority of OU fans do not share your opinion and admire Steven Pledger for his talent and commitment to OU.

All players are labeled to either have a high ceiling or no ceiling. No ceiling doesnt mean you are a bad player, it's just a label that people drop on those who lack certain unteachable things like athletic ability.

David Godbold and Longar Longar are two of my favorite Sooners, and they both didnt have ceilings. They were as good as they were gonna get. Now, Longar got more playing time and experience which gave him better numbers, but he wasnt a great athlete and apparently had small hands so he had a LOW ceiling for a skilled 6'11'' power forward. If he had a ton of athletic ability he would have received the "high ceiling" label.

Everyone here knows I was practically the president of the Longar Longar fan club, and he had no potential. No potential meaning he was not going to develop into a significantly better player.

I think Calvin can develop into a significantly better player, and I think Pledger will perfect his role as 3-point guy. Thats not to say that Pledger will be a failure at life and doesnt deserve to live, he is a fine basketball player, worthy of a scholarship. I just dont see a ton of potential on the basketball court for him.

Hopefully this clarifies what I meant.... No offense to the Bird Man or his family.

In June of 2010, the dearly departed Cheno posted on this board about Marcus Denmon's mediocrity.

I've just never been impressed with Denmon. He does absolutely nothing against decent teams.

thebigabd, who at the time was on a Mizzou kick, had this to say in response, along with repeated assertions that Denmon was a "good player."

He is a very solid role player and was still just a soph... He had plenty of good games and averaged nearly 11 per game in Big 12 play.

For what it's worth, Denmon was coming off a sophomore season in which he averaged 10.4 points per game. He shot 42.9% from the field and 40.7% from three. Last year he averaged 16.9 on 50%/44.8%, and this year he's a leading candidate for Big 12 player of the year and a potential All-American.

Pledger as a sophomore? 10.9 points on 39.3%/35%. Through the first third of his junior season (which is the easiest part of the schedule, but still...), his numbers mirror Denmon's junior breakthrough.

I don't think Pledger is really in Denmon's league as an overall player now, nor do I think he ever will be. Denmon beats Pledger in almost every other phase of the game. But when it comes to putting points on the board, Pledger has the potential to be among the conference's best.

Odd that abd saw that potential in Denmon just a year ago, arguing in his favor against the exact same spin he used prior to this season to tear down one of his own. He even claimed the idea of including games against Nebraska, Colorado and Iowa State was a red herring... when in his defense of Denmon a year ago he included two games against Nebraska and Colorado.

It should be noted that thebigabd has repented for his sins against Steven Pledger since this thread was started last summer, and I have forgiven him for his shortsightedness. :D
