Sounds like he's leaning towards Baylor

DFW, you hearing the same?

It amazes me that Baylor can now attract players like Stevie Clark. Baylor essentially had the death penalty in 2005/06. Just three years later Drew had them above .500 in the Big XII. It is unbelievable what he has done at Baylor.

All I know is that following his visit a few weeks ago, it sounded like Clark finally had some true questions about attending a school beside OSU.

In your mind has he always been a strong OSU lean until recently? That is what I read this to say; however, I read him quoted as saying things like "when I am at OU", etc. So I am wondering is he a kid that just tells reporters what he thinks they want to hear? I am sure a lot of them do that. They are 17 years old and probably want to make people happy.

here's what I know. He visited Baylor and really liked the visit. Baylor thinks they have a good fit for him because Pierre Jackson is a senior. They have some good returning guards- Bello, Heslip, Rose and Franklin but none of those guys are quick enough to play point the way Scott Drew's system requires.

Drew's system is predicated on the point guard having freedom to create shots for teammates and himself. Jerrells and Jackson are classic point guards for what Drew wants and both put up good production in Baylor's system. Carter was good because he was strong, smart and a senior but not the type of point guard Drew looks for- not quick enough to get by defenders. He got the reins because Baylor became the first team in history to hire an AAU coach (back when it was legal to do so) and not get the player (Wall). Likewise, Baylor struck out on about five PG targets the year that AJ Walton ran the show. And that was a disaster. Clark fits the system well and I'm sure Drew is hammering that home.

After the Baylor visit, Clark still seemed bent on OSU from what I heard. But Drew has invested a lot of energy in him personally. For right or wrong, Drew's focus is usually recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. For example, last year Drew missed practices right before games to go see Ricardo Gathers play. The main competition was LSU, but Trent Johnson didn't make the effort to go watch his games even though Gathers was in his backyard. Gathers noticed. It paid off because they landed him. But it is definitely not what most coaches do. Most coaches once the season starts, pretty much shut down the recruiting focus. Drew picks it up because he knows he has the player's ear during this time without a lot of competition.

A couple of weeks ago, I was told Clark would probably not sign and commit to OSU but would just enroll in December. It sounded like Baylor was on the outs. But I know they haven't accepted defeat and continue to recruit him hard. I asked recently and was told that they were still in the hunt for him, but it did not sound like they thought a commitment was imminent. The word I got was it was an OSU/ Baylor battle but that OSU would likely land him.

OSU has a lot of guards on the roster for next year:

Kirby Gardner 6'2" 200- SR
Brian Williams 6'5' 200- SO or JR (medical redshirt likely)
Phil Forte- 5'11" 195- SO
Markel Brown- 6'3" 190- SR
Marcus Smart- 6'4" 225- SO
Chad Frazier- 6'4" 185- JR

I think Nash will go pro, but I doubt Brown and/or Smart will. I think the thing that Ford might have working against him for right or wrong is that 4 out of the last 4 point guards that Ford recruited have transferred out- two of those were top 75 recruits (Dowell, Penn, Gulley, Guerrero).

You usually don't bring in juco guards to sit them on the bench. Frazier and Gardner should play and of course Williams, Brown and Smart are three best guards on the roster.

July is when I get the feeling that OSU was the leader.

FWIW he is supposed to be in Columbia this weekend.

Mizzou was pretty high on his list till Wes Clark committed giving us two PG's in this class. A week ago though Travis Jorgenson de-committed making room for another PG.

After this year we lose Dixon and likely Pressey so Mizzou would like 2 PG's this year.

So far Haith has put together a nice class. Using rivals rankings he has 49. Johnathan Williams III, 70. Wes Clark, and 116. Torren Jones.

I'm not sure where we stand with Stevie Clark these days but it's a good sign he is coming up to visit. He would be a great addition to this class.

MissouriFan, I read that Haith suspended Dixon and Bull indefinitely. Are they already back on the team?

As for Clark, I wouldn't count on signing him if I were you. IMO, he'll stay closer to home, likely OSU or Baylor. I'll be shocked if he picks Mizzou. You never know, though. Kids do the unexpected sometimes when it comes to recruiting.

Dixon is already practicing with the team again. They didn't break any laws or NCAA rules just a team rule so I wouldn't expect them to be out long. My guess is they will miss both exhibition games and maybe one or two of our first games. I'd be shocked if Dixon wasn't playing in time for the Battle for Atlantis tournament.

Many considered Clark a Mizzou lean until we landed our second PG for 2013. At that point, he no longer was a priority. But when Jorgenson decommitted unexpectedly, that spot opened up again. I wouldn't be at all shocked to see him commit this weekend.

On Dixon, I don't expect him to play any time soon. Although it isn't an NCAA issue and he hasn't been arrested, I don't think it's a simple violation of team rules, either. (basing that on rumors... I could be entirely wrong).
