Is there one?

Newell doesn't play any all game then comes in at the 8 minute mark for Blair?

Thompson barely plays and then logs a ton of minutes?

Does Capel just put a blindfold on and fling darts at a board? Or let the frog/gecko pull out names out of a hat?

I feel the same Sam. That is frustrating for me. What if you were a player and thought Coach forgot about you?

I thinks it's hard to have a solid rotation when u don't know what players are going to show up.

Bingo. Thompson and Newell were on the bench all game long, and I'm guessing Coach Capel thought they'd give them a spark by coming in late. After all, he was looking for guys who wanted to compete. Is it grasping at straws? Of course, it is...but what choice does he really have at this point?

He has the choice of putting together a solid game plan (which includes a consistent substitution pattern) and to act like he knows what he's doing.
We're not talking about a talent isssue here. We're talking about putting together a good enough game plan to beat a D2 team.
If you think "grasping at straws" is what it takes for OU to beat Chaminade then I don't know what to tell you.

That is the coaches fault and a pathetic excuse. If you don't know what you are going to get from your players, then you are not in control of the team.
I don't know if Capel knows what he is going to get or not but that is a very sad excuse. I will say this, if he doesn't he needs to leave and he should probably do it today (if he doesn't know what he will get from his players).

I think you missed the point. I'm not justifying what he's doing beyond understanding his reasoning. He can put all the game plans together he wants, but he still has to find 5 guys who will all compete on the floor. Putting Thompson and Newell in late meant that he was still trying to find 5 guys who wanted to compete. It's a bad sign all the way around, but it should be obvious what his reasoning was.
