Sweet 16 games

When you have your arm on a guy’s back after shoving him and go up… that used to be called 100% of the time. I understand times have changed.
Also it was the last shot. You gonna call that before the shot even goes up? That ref would get tarred and feathered

The ref could have called it on the tip in. I’m saying that used to be an automatic foul. I have no dog in the fight so I don’t really care. It’s just an observation.

I have enormous respect for Kelvin Sampson, but have to admit watching Houston's offense in the first half of this game has brought back a few memories
:) . We last won the Conference Tournament Championship in 2003...even though we literally did not make a single basket in the last 15 minutes of the game (no exaggeration). I'm also reminded of the 1996 NCAA tournament game against Temple. Half-joking aside, I expect Houston to have a big second half offensively.

Big shot by Flemings to end the half with points at a premium. Houston has actually had a handful of open looks from three. Need those to start going down in the second half. Illinois is really good and is a tough matchup for Houston with all their size and offensive rebounding.

That’s what I hate… if it was a foul in the first 5 sec… or any 5 sec… it’s a foul then. If it’s a foul call it period.

That was the MO, make it ugly even if you couldn't score. It was pretty hard to watch at times but we won a lot of games. Ace McGhee's low post game really fed the machine while our guards would pour it on during that '02 run. We still got screwed by the refs putting Ace on the bench with cheap foul calls versus Indiana. I never really recovered from that ref cheating. It was like when the Bills came back on the Oilers in the '93 wildcard game.

Houston players now looking hesitant to taking open shots..somebody for the Cougars needs to hit a shot

The game isn't over yet, but this prediction is not aging too well...26 points in more than 28 minutes of action. Good grief. At this point, I'm not sure Illinois needs to score again in this game to win...hope I'm wrong. C'mon, Houston!

Damn. Was really hoping Houston wouldn’t have one of these games. Credit Illinois for their defense tonight. Houston had a path with Florida out and the regional in their home town, but this has been ugly.

Really uncharacteristic game from Houston in some ways. They had three or four chances in the second half to grab loose balls when they had some momentum and were still within striking distance, but just couldn’t get possession. They usually get the vast majority of 50/50 balls.

I agree, Illinois has been out physicaling them.
