Texas OU

When I watched this team early I barely saw VV she is a game changer and shows good conditioning. If both her and Mulkey are used next year together it will be a big 12 matchup nightmare. Texas loses its bigs and Joyner although big will face up. Sometimes just good solid play ends up trumping the big time flashy player. OU has that in VV

Great effort and they never gave up. Awesome effort by ViVi; how many three point plays did she have?

Loved the Effort! Just wish we could play that consistently 100% of the time. Not just when we are down!
Also, Who works with the post? I am very impressed by KK and VV's footwork!
By far some of the best footwork by a post player I have seen since the Crystal Langhorne days at Maryland.

Lang is back next year. She and Holmes will be a challenge. Sherri has used 2 bigs very sparingly as she likes 4 guards. I doubt she changes her offense.

If we haven't realized that we have one of the best young posts in the country, it is time to do so.

We couldn't hit outside of about five feet. The fact that we got to within three with our shooting being as off as it was is stunning. We were one three away from this being an OT type game once again. If we shoot 25% from three, we win at Austin.

We played Texas dead even (almost) in Austin.

Yes, Boyette was getting a lot of body on those blocks. She usually does. But, once you get the reputation as a shot blocker, you can get away with it. We need to start the Heisman-type campaign for Nancy and Vivi as shot blockers now.

It hurt that the only free throws that Vivi missed were at the end of the game.

How bad is Maddie hurt?

I thought Vivi had a good season last year coming so soon off the acl and having only played basketball for 4 years. Now, this year she is just getting better. Appreciate that her free throw shooting is improving as some posts never get better. She is strong, has a good attitude and just fun to watch. Thank goodness we had her and Kay Kay this game.

Worried about Maddie. We do need her and we need Gioya. We are going into February and this team has to come together and start playing from the first whistle. I am still hopeful we can be a sweet sixteen team. Think we even have a shot at winning the Big 12 tournament. The fact that we played Texas this close at Texas plus Baylor hasn't proven to be the team people expected.

The Big-12 really stacked the schedule against us. But now (while it will frustrate the schedule maker out of his mind) we get back for that. We are the only team that has played at both Texas and at Waco. No other team in the conference has had to do that. In fact several teams (such as OSU) have still not played at either.

In addition we have only had 3 home games at this point. We now finally get some home games - but do have to be on the road 3 of the last 5 - when finishing strong will be critical.

Who knows, maybe once in the next 25 years the Big-12 will give us an advantageous start and finish. But don't bet on it. Politics.

The problem with having such an unbalanced start is it starts you off with a lower record than you would otherwise have - and causes you to get ranked low. It turns out that the polls are very stingy about moving anyone up after things get to this point.

If we won the conference at this point, we would still likely not get into the top 10 in the polls. That is how things played out last year too, even though we finished 2nd and 4 games ahead of third place. We still finished pretty low in the polls and brackets. Of course we brought some of that on ourselves by losing to a really weak team - I think Kansas - on our home court at the end of the season.

But then again, I think it was Skilled-Serve who recently said Kansas is the conference team we are most competitive with. I guess he thinks we are going to be fighting to stay out of 10th place this year. :facepalm I suggest he is way off on that.

Our shooters need to spend as much time as possible in the gym knocking down shots.

Actually, Texas graduates four starters: Boyette, McCarty, Rodrigo, and Davenport. Lang is good, but not Boyette.

So watching the game now, saw a clip of Texas recognizing Sherri's being named to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Jodi and Karen presented her with a golf club. Now that was cool. A good moment for all involved and basketball fans.

Sweetest OU girl .I made statement about Kansas and Ou. It was about recruiting the same type athletes.Kansas will always be bottom feeder in big 12 atleast that what a coach told me.
OU will always be better but kansas may get some top kids soon in 2017 class.

Higgs and Holmes will be huge impacts for Texas not many teams anywhere are going to match the athleticism of those two. Sutton is nice but not near the athlete and you never know how players come back from knee injuries however these are 3 players Texas plans on being big impacts.

That was cool. I'm pretty sure we did the something similar for Karen Sharp and Jody Conradt.

I was just sort of teasing ielle. I did not recall who said it, but I did know it was about recruiting.

You do not always say this, but some posters seem to think winning is 90% about recruiting. It is actually more complicated than that. Especially when you consider coaching, injuries, inaccuracies of recruiting lists, player development, etc.

But those folks who think it is all about recruiting, to be consistent, would have to argue that if OU and Kansas are recruiting the same players, then they will end up in about the same place in the league results. But I was just kind of teasing them with my comment. It was not a serious sentence. Of course they will come back and say "well I never said it was all about recruiting". But they oftem do actually imply that at the very least.

Tough road loss.
But some positives
1. Level of effort was a 1000% better than in Stillwater. Didn't get embarrassed at all.
2. Vivi's level of play was awesome. Does OU need to move to a double post next year
Nancy at the high post on offense?
3. Is Little ready to end her funk/slump?

Negatives.
1. How can you run a 4 guard offense when you don't have 4 guards who are offensively worth playing?

I am not at all ready to concede that Dawn Staley does anything better than Sherri except she is a much better recruiter. Give Sherri Dawn's talent and she would beat everyone in the country not named UCONN. When Sherri had her best talent she was a threat to beat anyone. You may not think so but, that tells me that recruiting is extremely important.

I agree Norm. It is important. But it is not everything. Not sure about the Staley comparison. I suspect if Staley was having to coach her same team in the Big-12 with a round robin schedule, her results would look quite a bit different.

Sadly moreso than any other sport women's hoops it's all about the
Janes and Joans than it is Xs and Os. Talent decides all.

and unlike the men's game the elite talent group in the women's game is extremely
limited.
