This was about character, as was the West Virginia game. This team had every opportunity to fold. They had lost big to Baylor in Waco after a good start, and they got down in both games. With their floor leader of the past three or four weeks on the bench, they played good basketball---not outstanding, just good. They weren't hitting every shot. They weren't getting every rebound. They weren't getting a steal every time down court. They just played sound basketball.
It is interesting that all those fans who said we were horrible because we commit too many turnovers didn't rise up to sing the praises of a team that had only seven turnovers while Tech had 19. Tech outshot us from the field, as well as from three-point range. They almost tied us on rebounds. They actually had more blocks. But, we won somewhat easily, although on a comeback, due to turnovers. Nobody mentioned that.
We just played good basketball and let our natural talent and ability to make plays define the final score. We had several players who did make good plays. Chelsea showed what she can do. Gioya did what she can do. Gabbi did what she can do. Even Derica lent a hand with what she does. Nothing spectacular. Just play smart and do your job.
Curiously, we win two, one on the road, and our rpi drops from 15 to 18.
