This is the hot rumor gaining traction this morning.

Do you think beer sales at the LNC would help attendance?

I guarantee it would, but it will never happen as long as Boren is in that seat - and probably never ever.

I would hope not. I mean I drink, but I wouldn't ever not go to an OU game because they don't serve beer. I could be way off but it would shock me if people didn't go to the games because they don't serve beer. I think it would actually hurt attendance for those trying to make it a family outing. It might help with student attendance, but I think as a whole there would be more negatives than positives.

Yeah, I completely disagree. Serving beer at the arena would never slow me from taking my kids there. They see me drink beer at home. I'm a responsible drinker. When people aren't, it's a good lesson to teach them.

I'm a big fan of no booze or beer in college arenas and stadiums. I wouldn't want to see OU go in this direction (or texas, either, for that matter).

Or, you could have a bunch of drunk idiots sitting near you, spilling beer on the kids, fighting, and cussing. I think it'd probably be possible to teach them without the annoying, tasteless, real life show and tell.

Life lessons. Same issues at pro games, etc. Hell, half the people at Memorial Stadium are drunk going in.

Even if it didn't, it might loosen OU fans up some. :D

I said that half in jest. OU fans do need to loosen up a little and try not to be so "sophisticated."

But from a personal standpoint, I don't like the idea. Booze at sporting events increases the potential for problems that could be embarrassing to the university as well as our BB program. All it takes is one unruly fan who has had too much to drink.

Highly doubt the LNC yellow shirt mafia would let it get to those levels of insubordination.

If fans in the baseline seats spill beer, it will be an easy cleanup thanks to those bright red plastic seats ;)

I don't think Boren will allow it, and I don't think it will impact attendance... but it will definitely impact concession sales!

The interesting thing is lots of fans say they cannot afford the cost of tickets but apparently they can afford $7.00 beers.

There's no reason why beer shouldn't be sold at collegiate events, especially post season tournaments. Alcohol or lack thereof, people are going to behave stupidly. Ask Marcus Smart at Tx Tech and Bill Self at Iowa St last year about moronic adult booster behavior minus beer sales courtesy of Jeff Orr and Melvin Weatherwax.

Difference between a football game and OU basketball...people aren't going to tailgate before the game, so the amount of people who are "drunk" and "spilling beer all over their kids" is significantly limited.

Nothing wrong with a couple frosty pops while taking in some bball.

I am big time against this. People act like idiots already. We don't need to introduce (more) alcohol to the equation.

Is it a problem at professional sports?

When I lived in Denver CU sold beer at both football and basketball initially. Football games became a problem and they stopped selling beer. They continued at basketball. I went to a few games and never noticed any problems. I have no idea if they still sell beer at basketball.

At UT they sell beer at basketball in the donor or alumni lounge (I don't know the actual name but I have been to it). Sales only occur prior to the game and at half time. It is an older crowd and I saw no issues when I attended.

beer/alcohol is already creeping back at OU events last year it was back in the football club level .. and at the basketball pregame courtside club ..

this year it is also at halftime at the basketball courtside club ..

it was always in suites at football games and the sooner club pregame tailgate ..

now it is at texas arena sports and west virginia all sports ...

i would expect the trend to continue

hell as long as they allow you to leave and come back at halftime I'd be happy.

Just because you are a responsible drinker doesn't mean everyone else is. When I go to games I'm not worried about me I worry about other idiots who scream anything without a care of who's around them and I don't think beer would help that situation. It really wouldn't bother me if they did sell during games I would enjoy a few beers during a game, but I answered the question that I don't think it would help attendance.
