Greg Grensing is in his sixth season as assistant coach at UNLV.

Grensing was hired at UNLV in 2005 after spending 11 seasons on the Creighton University men's basketball coaching staff, including the 2004-05 season as the associate head coach.

During his time at Creighton, Grensing worked for head coach Dana Altman, which was a partnership that dated back to 1986-87 when they started three seasons of work as assistant coaches under UNLV head coach Lon Kruger at Kansas State University.

When Kruger left KSU, Grensing remained in Manhattan, Kan., as a member of Altman's staff and was with him for 15 years at KSU and Creighton.

Grensing has coached in a total of 14 NCAA Tournaments, six while at Creighton and three with the Runnin' Rebels. As the recruiting coordinator at Creighton, he brought in talented basketball players as well as talented students. The Bluejays played in the postseason in each of his last eight years (six NCAA Tournaments) there and had an Academic All-District selection in seven of those eight seasons. Two of his more notable recruits to Creighton are current NBA player Kyle Korver (currently with the Chicago Bulls) and former NBA player Rodney Buford (New Jersey Nets).

The 53-year-old native of Council Grove, Kan., graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and began his coaching career with a two-year stint as a graduate assistant at his alma mater.

Steve Henson is in his seventh year as assistant coach at UNLV. A six-season NBA veteran, he came to UNLV in the spring of 2004 after spending one year as an assistant coach at the University of South Florida. Prior to working at USF, he spent time as an assistant coach as well as an advance scout for the NBA's Atlanta Hawks from 2001-03 working under current UNLV head coach Lon Kruger and then Terry Stotts.

Henson, 42, also worked for Kruger at the University of Illinois as an assistant coach in 1999-2000.

In the summer of 2007 after UNLV's run to the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16, he was recognized as one of the top 25 assistant coaches in the country by Rivals.com.

A native of McPherson, Kan., Henson graduated from Kansas State in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in human movement.

Lew Hill is in his seventh year as assistant coach at UNLV.

Hill came to Las Vegas to work with the Runnin' Rebels in the spring of 2004 from Texas A&M University where he was an assistant coach from 1998-2003. He served as the Aggies' associate head coach during his last season (2003-04) in College Station.

Prior to his time with at Texas A&M, Hill spent four seasons as an assistant coach at East Carolina University and two years as an assistant at Southeast Missouri State University (1992-94).

Hill began his coaching career at Wichita (Kan.) East High School in 1989-90, then moved into the collegiate ranks as a part-time assistant at the University of South Alabama from 1990-92.

As a player, Hill was the starting point guard for San Jacinto (Texas) Junior College in 1983-84, helping the team to the junior college national championship and earning JUCO All-America honors. He went on to earn All-Missouri Valley Conference honors as a senior at Wichita State University, leading the Shockers to the NCAA Tournament.

Henson having played in the NBA is a nice bonus, for recruiting i imagine.

Grensing: 14 NCAA Tournaments
Henson: NBA player, voted top 25 assistant by rivals
Lew: Juco all-american in Texas, college player in Kansas, worked at A&M

All in this area. That's good.

I like them. And they are "familiar" with Lon's system and style.

As much as I'm not against Evans coming aboard, I'm just not sure I see it happening right now. That said, turning down the Lamar head coaching job seems kind of odd. That is exactly what Evans needs to do to prove himself.

Maybe he thinks TU is gonna open up?

A lot better than what we had.

I agreed. I liked Jeff Capel as a coach, but I think this staff as a whole is a lot better than Capel and his no-name assistants. I think his assistants hurt him quite a bit. Telefono hurt him by getting him in trouble, and the rest hurt him by contributing very little. IMO

After the season ended one of the things I said was we needed a completely different staff. Well we got that with a coaching change at top. But having the same staff next year wasn't going to be a good thing for OU basketball no matter what.

What happens to Yo-Yo with the regime change? Are strength and conditioning coaches picked by the head coach or is that something taken care of by the athletic director?

I really hope he keeps Yo Yo...normally, S&C coaches are picked by the coach, not the AD, but I'd be willing to bet he keeps Yo Yo around just based on the work he's put in so far this offseason and the work he's put in over the past year of so...

Fitz's body reshaping can be directly attributed to Yo Yo...

Read on ESPN this morning that Lon's son, Kevin, might be an assistant coach option if he is ready to get into coaching.

I'm hoping Yo Yo is kept as the S&C as well. By all accounts that I've read, he's done a great job and you won't find another S&C that cares as much about OU Basketball.

Amen to that! Add Terry Evans to the mix and that would be one heck of a coaching staff.

I doubt if YoYo will be retained. UNLV's strength and conditioning coach, Jason Kabo, has been on staff for the past ten years, so it's likely he will join Kruger at OU.

One of the things I appreciated when Stoops came was that he hired Gundy. It made me feel like he valued the OU tradition. Wish Kruger would have at one coach with an OU background.

I understand that it's Kruger's prerogative, but I would be disappointed if Jozsef was not kept on staff--one for just maintenance of someone with OU ties, but also for the tight bond Jozsef has seemed to forge with these players.

I really hope they keep Yo Yo i think hes great for the players & i think they respect him & like him a lot

Wasn't YoYo the SC a few years back when Crocker and WW decided to boycott off-season conditioning?

I'd love to have a connection to OU by either retaining YoYo or hiring Evans, but I'd rather win. If winning is compromised by hiring someone connected to OU, then no thanks.

Kruger has a proven staff. He knows what he's doing so I trust him to bring or hire the personnel he needs to make us successful.
