It also has more "BALANCE" in the basketball schedule. KU no longer has 4 dud games against NU and CU. Presuming an 18 game conference schedule, everybody plays everybody twice ... home and away.
Fair and balanced, for all.
In basketball, I can't wait for NU and CU to move on.

Exactly. It's going to be great.
I truly believe KU will continue to kick UT's butt in basketball and OU will handle them in football. So great that they have their own TV network and such....let's kick their butts on the field/court!!!!
This is ridiculous....
The Big 12 stays together, which can only HELP OU from a competitive standpoint and they got their tv money. They were going to be with Texas whether it was in the SEC, Pac-16, Big 10, WAC, or MWC conference.
OU will be just as strong in football and basketball, and have more opportunity to get high seeds in the NCAA Tournament and a BCS Championship bid in football.
This whole "Texas owns the conference" thing is absolutely absurd.
How so? Texas owns the conference. They do. I'm not sure how you can dispute that.
You really don't get it, do you?All I care about is OU's competitive advantage, which is more than secure with this move.
As for Texas, how do you define one team owning the conference? By their revenue? Well, yes, they are the biggest school in the biggest state with the best academics, and are the biggest money maker. But what the hell kinda fan cares about that? Fans care about what happens on the field/court..
Do they have the best football program? No, OU does...
Do they have the best basketball program? No, KU does...
Do they have the second best basketball program? No, OU does...
Do they have the best baseball program? No, but I dont know who does.
Do they have the best golf program? No, OSU does...
So, they can take their $5 million extra tv revenue and we will keep beating them on the field/court and it won't matter. If their fans take some kind of pleasure in that, well, that is fine by me.

You might be right although I think there's a chance we may be battling near the bottom for a while. We just have a lot to overcome, made too many mistakes the last year or two. But the football is just the opposite. There's only 2 good teams, a couple decent teams, and a bunch of bad teams. It also has more "BALANCE" in the basketball schedule. as much as it pains me to type this, they DO have the best baseball right now in the conference and it has been that way for a few year now
I understand your point, but right now? OU has the best baseball -- we're in the World Series, and they're home watching.
We would have been with texas in the SEC, in the PAC 10, you name it. And if we'd followed them to either of those conferences, we'd been below those conferences' existing top dogs, too.
texas gained no power over us, as I understand it. We both, along with A&M, get more money than the other schools, and we're both free, as are the others schools, to create our own TV networks.
So go ahead, cool or anyone else, tell me what I'm missing. And mostly, tell me how we'd have been less beholden to or cowed by or controlled by (or however one wishes to phrase it) ut if we'd followed them to the SEC or Pac 10.
Because all this indignation only flared up when it was announced the Big 12 was not fading into history. coolm mentioned that he didn't like some of Joe C.'s public statements (and I didn't, either), but those were out there all along.
How are we more texas's little brother as things stand than if we'd switched with them to another conference?
And do you guys honestly think you've got a better handle on all this than Joe C. and President Boren? Do you not think they might have insight and knowledge that we don't possess? They've been pretty damned good at their jobs so far -- how is they're suddenly viewed as clueless and ineffectual, when none of us were involved in these negotiations and all we have to go on is the wacky, contradictory rumors that have been floating around for a week?
