Travis Ford!
They hate it when you mention it but Travis Ford is the 3rd best coach in the program's history. Let that sink in for a moment.
Yep, they've had two good coaches in their history (and one of those two, Mr. Iba, saw a huge falloff in his final decade at the helm), which further belies the Oklahoma media's treatment of them as some kind of traditional basketball power.
as we get further and further away from Mr. Iba people who dont remember his influence fail to see OSU's total basketball tradition.
He meant every bit as much to college basketball as Bud meant to college football.
Fine. But they've had only good coach since then (and as described above, he was tainted) and none before Iba. Would OU still be touted as a traditional football power if they'd had only Wilkinson and Stoops in their entire history?
OU's had four great football coaches and if you throw in Fairbanks, they've had five. oswho's had two great basketball coaches. OU's had twice that many.
Who is the OTHER great coach???
I think Sutton was very good but I'm not sure I'd use the word great to describe him.
Sutton, his issues aside, was as good as the OU coaches I'm calling great.
We'll agree to disagree.
While I might agree with Bennie and Chuck, I don't agree with comparisons to Bud, Barry and Bob.
I was referring to OU's four great basketball coaches!
DOH! Sorry!
Then I totally agree! Almost always agree with you, Sky!
Just FWIW, but Eddie actually had the better winning %. IMO, if you use it on one (& I certainly do), then the other deserves it as well.Who is the OTHER great coach???
