How does a professional basketball team with two all-stars on the floor fail to make a field goal in the last five minutes of a game?

Talk about laying an egg! That was the worst five minutes of basketball, offensively and defensively, I have seen in sometime!

It was pretty bad but the only thing i am really concerned with so far is turnovers. They have to cut that crap out.

Defensively I actually thought we were pretty good last night. And on offense, we had some good looks that just didn't fall the last couple of minutes.

I also think it may take longer than expected to get some bad habits out of the system and for BD to really see what he has. It's odd that he has played singler so much and not Amo.

I am very encouraged with Westbrooks play so far and his willingness to distribute. Also encouraged by our post defense. it looks pretty good compared to last year.

This team looks like crap.

Westbrook letting people drive by him without even trying. Donovan constantly switching on screens was a killer last night. Donovan still insisting on playing singler and leaving amo on the bench. McBro not getting any minutes.

With all the problems, I really think the main issue is westbrook and durant still haven't understood that it isn't about them. Until this changes, thunder aren't doing anything.

And what is up with Augustine? He has been terrible this year and the team looks lost with him running the point. Time to give cam payne a chance?

Hopefully after this 4 in 5 stretch we can take some time to slow down and reevaluate things in practice

All excellent points to explain why a championship caliber team like the Thunder lost the last three games.

The key to me, though, is the part I highlighted in bold. Westbrook and KD don't seem to know basketball is a teamsport. That's especially true in the closing minutes of every game. Billy D has been nothing more than an extension of Scotty Brooks by allowing that to happen. Scotty had no choice last season due to all of the injuries. That's not the case this season. The announcers keep saying the players need to adjust to a "new offense." What new offense? The only thing different is a new coaching staff.

Like you, I'm not impressed with Donovan's substitution pattern so far. Seems to me Kanter would be a better choice at the five than Adams. I also wonder why Singler sees the floor at all, or why the Thunder brass didn't trade him in the off season? With his .143% average from the field and .167% from three, he has yet to prove he can score from anywhere on the court. What can he do? He's definitely not a defensive specialist.

You're right about Augustine. He's not the same player as he was last year. Neither is Nick Collison. He has looked lost so far. Maybe it's because he feels that way sitting at the end of Donovan's bench.

The frustrating part to a casual observer like me is that this Thunder team is as talented as any team in the NBA. Problem is, they don't play like a team. There are way too many turnovers and lost opportunities to score. The defense has looked good in the last two games...that is, until crunch time when it should be better but actually gets worse. A banged up Rose made Westbrook look bad in the final minutes. No one had an answer for Butler.

If Billy D doesn't fix some of the problems ailing this team, this is sure to be a long season for Thunder fans.

So why is singlar still playing over AMO? This is ridiculous. one of the best shooters in the league hasn't even gotten into a game th is year

I doubt if Billy D could answer that question. Singler's pathetic shooting performance continued in the win over the Suns. He was 1 of 5 from the field (0-3 from behind the arc), and even missed his only free throw.

Nothing about giving him 15 minutes in that game makes any sense to me! Neither does playing him over AMO! :facepalm

And another egg last night.

I do not understand what BD is doing. Down double digits late against a team that is obviously packing the paint and playing great defense. So more singlar and less AMO. This is getting frustrating

I know BD's a good coach who will figure it out eventually. I'm also sure he know more about coaching than I will ever know.

But, some of the things he has done to this point of the season boggles the mind. If I was in his shoes, Singler would be so far down the end of the bench, I would need a megaphone to communicate with him. Playing him over AMO is a real head scratcher!

By the way, how does it feel having a thread all to our self? :ez-laugh:

Thunder laid another egg last night. Supposedly, they've been working on defense; that's why they gave up 122 points to an offensively challenged team. Also, they seem to run out of gas in the fourth quarter. Donovan has a lot of work to do...

The Thunder are not just defensively challenged, they're also struggling on offense.

Singler is not the only one who struggles to score, but he has been consistently bad the entire season. Case in point, last night's game, where he failed to score, going 0-5 from the field (0-4 from three), with no rebounds. He did manage to log one steal. He also had four fouls in his twelve minutes on the court.

What does Billy D see in this guy? A better question is why didn't Sam Presti send him packing in the off season?

maybe thinking the directive to play Singler is coming from on high. Singler is the worst player playing regular minutes in the NBA, and that's not hyperbole.

I'm thinking Donovan may be in a bit over his head in the NBA.
