The Wicked Witch is Dead!!!!!

Cooks is by far the best recruiter on the defensive side. Most of the players are very young.

Cooks is a decent recruiter, although it does seem like our DB’s are smurfs (e.g. Bookie). My issue with Cooks is he doesn’t “coach his players up” very well, and they seem to regress during their playing career. For example, we had 2 seniors last year (Jordan Thomas and Steven Parker) who were better players as freshmen and sophomores than they were as juniors and seniors. His players seem to have problems turning their heads and looking like they made a play on the ball. Who was the last DB playing under Cooks to make all-conference?

JMHO

P.S. I think Calvin Thibodeaux rivals Cooks as the best recruiter on the defensive side of the ball. This is his 3rd year at OU and his haul last year was exceptional (Perkins, Thompson, Redmond, Tatum), and he has some solid commitments for the 2019 class (Hicks, Roberson, Jacoby Jones, Wete).

I’ll shut up about football now.

This kind of begs the question.... how do you ascend to this level if you don't know how to coach? I know his brother was a legend, but the guy has been around football and been coaching football for several decades.

It's not like these schemes are secret codes that only certain humans are capable of understanding. They are well published, studied, and understood by coaches at all levels.

Did he just stop caring? Did he not do his best? Does he understand football but not know how to translate it to the players? We have a few guys like that in my office, that are very technical and smart but can't convey that information to normal human beings.

I'll agree with Thomas. Parker was 2nd team all conference so I'd disagree with him. Bookie is short but everyone in the country wanted him and I think he's playing well. I think the defense as a whole is broken from lack of d-line pressure, linebackers off assignment, and DBs not tackling being the biggest issues I see.

This will be my last post about football as well.

The DBs won't look good till the front 4 can pressure the quarterback. If the defense can't get off the field they will wear out every game so at some point this season they might as well start gambling to either get a stop or look stupid. That will get our offense back on the field and they may need to win games 70 to 60.
I hope the next DC can get many more good D linemen and a bigger stronger team rather than a speed team.

OK football talk...

Bookie needs to be a corner and we need a safety...

Better DLINE are coming.. just takes time.

I think we run the table. See what happens.
