Thinking About Retirement

The thread isn’t silly. It’s just a discussion when and how coach will leave coaching the Sooners since she’s closing in on 25 years.

I think it goes over the line when another poster attacks a quite, calm honest and fair discussion.

Oh, I see! Any post that that OH starts is a "quite, calm honest and fair discussion", while anyone who thinks otherwise is a justified target for obscenities!

C'mon guys, enough of the personal attacks.

There are no personal attacks on posters on the other womens basketball board. It has been operational since 2016 and it is always civil. Many of yoy on here can attest to that.

The other women's board welcomes puke fans. It is not to my taste as long as the pokies are there to throw our there asinine comments.

The only one I am aware of there is OSU2009. He is a good poster, even though he is a poke fan. He does not name call or bicker with other posters like some of our fans do on here.

Frankly, I am sick to death of a minority of regular posters on this board - Syb, Tango, Cat, and to a lesser degree, Sweet, - trying to dictate what others say or even think about OUWBB on this board.

I began this thread as a simple discussion on when I think Sherri might retire. It had nothing to do with this season, past seasons or future ones.

I wanted to generate a conversation (because this board is dying, IMHO) and read what others thought about a legendary coach hanging it up one day.

25 years is frankly 5 years past when most working people begin thinking about retirement.

The thread was not meant as a criticism of coach in anyway or to foster or demean her accomplishments or shortcomings.

But, as usual, the thought Gestapo here came out in full force to twist what was posted and to demand group think be enforced.

I got fed up and responded. It was over the top and I am sorry for that.

But it was well deserved.

Other boards are popping up because of the attempts at censorship and group think that regularly rears its ugly head here from a small cadre of people.

“Puke” fans, was the comment, I believe, that was used to define anyone who dares to refuse to take part in the excuse-making that has gone on here for years.

Others have left this board and gone elsewhere, to boards that are, frankly, far more informative and contain much more insider news.

I choose to remain here knowing that I will get a different perspective from the OUWBB SS stormtroopers.

I believe reading and thinking about what others think is educational and, more often than not, is educational and informative.

I plan on continuing coming here and posting what I think.

If any of you don’t like it, feel free to leave and form your own circle jerk somewhere else.

Again, I apologize for my terse reply, but not for saying what I think.

The poke attitude is there in everything he posts. I find it annoying. The subtle stuff is sometimes more irritating then the more strident attitude.

"Circle jerk" is the perfect terminology to use for the "handful" of excuse makers and sunshine pumpers on this board. Well done.

I've been on this board for years and years, and I've never seen a post as arrogant, egotistical, and self serving as this one. It would seem that everything this poster ever posts is moderate, reasonable, and logical. Any poster that dares to have a different opinion is "trying to dictate what others think", is "the Thought Gestapo", and the "SS Stormtroopers". If any poster has a differing opinion more that once, the are put on "The List". In other words this poster sees any dissent as an attack, to be answered by name calling and obscenities.

In one sentence he apologizes for his previous obscene post ("It was over the top and I am sorry for that"), but in the next sentence he takes it back ("But it was well deserved"). In my view, no post is deserving of the gutter meme he put in a public forum.

I have never questioned his right to post an opinion (other than the obscene one). He has often questioned my right to disagree with him. It's pretty obvious who is using "Gestapo" tactics here.

Well, I am here and I am here to stay. And for the record, my tight butt is "exit only".

I don't know that I have seen so many people express feelings of persecution without trying to start a religion. In this case, I don't know that the attitudes would be as acceptable under the 501C3 guidelines for a religion as much as perhaps a 501C7 as a social club which might be used to teach the philosophy and rules of a particular religion.

In order to get a good start for a religion, a martyr is often required. A death may be necessary for a strong start, perhaps even a crucifixion. But, there may be something else of equal or greater horror that might substitute, such as a dinner date with Kim Mulkey.

I don't know that it has any particular advantages since the only function would be to seek tax exempt status, which would require an income from which to be exempt. But, that would assume that someone is getting paid to complain, which would probably make it political which falls under different guidelines.

The more you 2 post, the more you prove my points. Keep going!

This is all fun as far as I am concerned. This is a public board so best not to take this stuff too seriously (unless it comes from puke fans).

I think is good to have sunshine pumpers and more realistic posters. It is also good to have those who enjoy the team and those who are unhappy all of the time.

Let's clobber Tech tomorrow!

Careful, betterstill. Ollie undoubtedly believes any mention of "puke fans" is a public rebuke of him. LOL

I am a self-confessed sunshine pumper. I rarely post but I read this board every day. I respect and admire coach Coale. I have posted that Norman, OK is not exactly the mecca of women's BB and recruiting talent can be a challenge. We see that all the time, unfortunately. Achieving a few natties can change that - as we see in women and men's gym and softball. Their phones don't stop ringing. It takes talent to win a natty - so which comes first, the chicken or the egg? Talent to win a natty or a natty to attract talent? We came the closest with Stacey Dales. I enjoy all the posters and their views - sometimes it is like watching a tennis match - but that is what makes it so fun.

I like your comment, Stringmusic, even though I do not pump a lot of sunshine.

I also like your username.

The sound made when a perfectly shot 3 pointer makes when it goes through the net without touching the rim or anything sounds like zzzzfffttt. That, to me, is string music. Hence, my user name. The color analyst for LSU men's BB games in the early 80's, guy name of Joe Dean, used that term a lot and it resonated with me. Thanks.
