Coaches get fired quickly in this business because when you have a few bad years in a row all optimism fades... Players start transferring, fans stop showing up, other coaches start telling players that the coach is about to get fired, etc. These things can snowball on you very quickly.

Can Lon save it? Sure, but he really needs 3 VERY GOOD transfers for next year to save the season... With TY, McGusty, and Sheph gone (for now) OU is in full desperation mode for next season.

Again... we know who the eligible players are... Question is, can they land them and save next season? If OU wins 15 or fewer games again next season the above mentioned issues will really good worse. More transfers, less fans, worse recruiting, etc... That is, until a new coach comes in which inherently brings optimism and change.

well if we are "bad" next year that will be 1 in a row

Most objective observers call this past season bad... They finished 9th in a 10 team league and tanked the entire end of the season. They still got selected for the NCAA Tournament because TY and some overrated wins (USC, Oregon, etc which ended up not being that great)...

If we are bad next year, that will 3 straight years of being in the lower half of the conference. Despite the NCAA tourney this year, this year was not very good. Better than last year, but still not what I would consider good. So next year would be 3 straight "not good" years.

So when boynton and chokie state miss the tournament again, will he be on the hot seat? That will be 2 bad seasons in a row.

lol

That is not apples to apples.

I know, one coach has a proven track record and the other hasn’t done anything to date. Yet the OP will continue talking about how great boynton is despite not having ever made the NCAA tournament.

Now if we are talking about getting rid of some of the assistants, that is something that should be strongly considered imo.

Different expectations... OSU was expected to suck, and turned out to be competitive and pretty good with a bad roster situation.

OU was supposed to be good, and the wheels fell off... Now the team has lost TY, Sheph, and McGusty and there could be more coming.

Boynton is also a new coach, which again, inherently brings optimism and change. OU is heading the other direction.

Its all relative.

Osu had a good year. They overachieved

No, they returned almost all of their players from a tournament team and didn’t make the tournament. Yes, they lost their best player but they replaced him with a quality grad transfer. They did not overachieve at all.

Ou on the other hand improved from 20 losses to making the tournament. Ou also lost its best player from the 20 loss team and replaced him with a very talented freshman. No one had ou in the top 25 going into this year. That is a lot closer to overachieving.

You are correct, it is all relative. Since you are an ou fan, you cannot look at ou objectively.

Nobody had OU in the top 25 at the end of the season either. That's for sure.

OSU finished higher than OU in conference standings
OSU was picked to finish last in the conference were they not?
OSU beat Kansas twice, Tech, and WVU (the top three teams in the conference).

By an unbiased eye, OSU had the better season when compared to expectations. THey did more with a heck of a lot less

Meh. How'd they do in the ncaa tournament?

The fact that you continue to falsely say that they finished higher in the standings shows that you are either stupid or simply want to drive an agenda and are willing to lie to do so.

Also, as to the OP, as some have correctly noted, we have had one bad year ('16-'17) under Lon. So if you think it takes a few bad years to get a coach fired, I guess you should be prepared for it to take a while for anything to happen. Just like it was amusing to see so many on here predict OU wouldn't make the tourney in the days before the bracket came out, it is now funny to see people speculate on when Lon should be fired based on next season -- which is 7+ months from starting.
