This team is disgraceful defensively

Fundamentally poor. Effort is inconsistent. Constant breakdowns.

Before next season starts, I hope Capel doesn't spend a minute on offense and teaches these guys how to defend. (Obviously that is an exaggeration, but you get my point). Until this group of players learns how to defend, they'll never be anywhere near as good as they should be.

How many good defensive players do we even have? You need 4 good defenders to play man...do we even have 4 on the entire squad who we would consider worthy of being called a good defender? I don't think we do.

I'm no coaching guru, but I don't understand why at the end of a game when the other team can only get back into the game by shooting threes you would stay in man when your man d is horrendous. Can we not go to a zone or something?

Agree 100%. They are abyssmal on the defensive end for way too many stretches. Crock is a good man defender. Cade can be at times. TMG is getting better. Everyone else pretty much stinks to high heavens. Does Caple have any coach on his staff that is a defensive specialist? If not, it may do him and this program good to hire one.

to be fair ISU was bombing 25 footers with a hand in their faces at the end of the game.

The way this season has gone down, I expect Coach to possibly change his philosophy a bit and emphasize Defense from the get go like the OP suggested.

Too many inconsistencies from too many players. It's like one or two finally get it together on D and then another guy breaks down. We have to get better.

In defense of the team tonight, ISU has the talent and experience in the front court to play with anyone. They just took a half to realize they could do what they wanted to underneath the basket. Didn't help that Crocker was not there to help.....especially with rebounding. They owned us at both ends in the second half.

A lot of it today was that we basically had 5 guys play tonight. Maybe 6 with Fitz. Pledge didn't really play much so we basically had 3 guards play all game. And Willis and Pledge just can't defend consistantly. If Willie and Crocker played we win by 30+

Also too much collapsing on the ball handler leaving a player on the wing unguarded. We did this on numerous occasions.
