Three point shooting killed us last night!

So in conference play White averages 14.0 ppg, 5.5 asts, & 9.7 boards.
We hold him to 3/7/4 and we didn't neutralize him at all? If anyone wants to suggest that we should have altered our approach sooner than we did I'll listen, but your statement is absurd.

Statistically it might look that way. But with ISU having little trouble finding good looks on the perimeter, I'd say the statistics don't tell the whole story. If he passes out of a double team, then there's one more pass to a wide open shooter for a three, his impact won't show up in the box score. But that's still a failed plan on defense.

I guess I would agree that White was somewhat "neutralized" in terms of a direct impact on the game, but because of the type of player he is, he will still have a profound indirect impact if you let him.

Royce White didn't even show up.

Cyclones would have won by 15-17 had he bothered to show up.

When I hear people say we had to employ this strategy because we would pick up too many interior fouls it is very depressing. That is saying we can't defend on the interior or exterior and have to pick one or the other. Not a wining formula. Oh, but we really have a better team than them?????

Heck, we should have just played a zone the entire game then. We would have been closer to defending their 3s with a zone.

...and we can't shoot either :facepalm

i don't think isu is a better team honestly. They are obviously a better shooting team and they were a better team this game but they didn't look like much besides guys throwing up 3s. They had good ball movement and good shooters. I didn't think they played good D

lolno

I think ISU is better than we are. They executed well and were able to take advantage of the mismatches that were presented. I think we did well to keep it close for a majority of the game, but we don't have the offensive horesepower to keep up with the good teams. That's been our pain point all year and it will continue to be.

On games where all three of Fitz, Osby and Pledge are hitting, then we're good. If we get another player to score as well then we're great and can hang with the big boys. Otherwise we're a mediocre and untalented team with very few dimensions. Not saying we suck, but we're mid-grade right now. A hell of a lot better than last year, though!

I think ISU is probably better, but only because shooters/scorers win basketball games, and they have way better, and way more shooters/scorers then we do. That overrides the fact that OU is probably better in other areas of the game. Just not "better" enough to overcome not having shooters/scorers on ISU's level.

ISU is a better team than OU. Royce White is as good as anyone on OU's team. Their backcourt is better than OU's. Their bench is better than OU's. Their win/loss record is better than OU's. The talent on the teams is not night and day different. Both teams have some good player but ISU has a more complete team.

OU basically has 8 players on its team this year. Next year OU will have 11 guys. It is going to make a big difference.

that all may be true...i was referring to a better TEAM as in OU is more well rounded, etc. ISU does one thing, atleast vs OU, and that was shoot the ball.

They defend better than we do as well. By quite a bit according to the stats.

ISU got more points, more steals, more blocks and more assists than OU. They also had less turnovers. Another extremely important thing they did better was produce more points with their bench.

I would suggest you are watching through crimson glasses if you only saw them do one thing better than OU. With that said, they did shoot the 3 a lot better than OU.

they were a one trick pony. I don't even remember them going inside.

They won't make it far in the tourney

To say that is ignorant. Against us they were a one trick pony. But they go inside often, as evidenced by Royce White's great play in every single game this season but ours. And that was mostly due to our defenses intense focus on him.

um, maybe you should read where I specifically said against us. and white's play doesn't show they go inside a lot
