My thoughts exactly. Ryan is not as big or as good as Collison was coming out of college, but I can see the similarities in the two; namely they're both blue collar, hard-working guys who do a lot of things well.

An invitation to participate in the NBA summer league will at least give Ryan a chance to show he can compete at the next level. We're pulling for you, Spangs!

I agree. Collision was the B12 player of the year in 2003 and was a first team AA. He averaged 14.8 ppg and 8 boards/game over his 4 years. They both are scrappy, smart players but Collison was a better player. Especially offensively.

Ryan can earn a nice paycheck overseas if he wants to.

No. They are giving a local guy with great character a chance. They know he'll play hard, and not embarrass the team. Good guy to have around, showing the other young guys how to work hard. Spangler would have a tougher time sticking on an NBA roster than Cousins, and Cousins won't have it easy.

Collison is listed at 6-10 255

Spangler is 6-7 230 or so.

I would actually compare Spangler more to poor mans Najera. Najera had a lot more offensive skill. I just don't see Spangler making the NBA.
