Thursday's Recap/Box Score and Final 5-game Stats

pretty nice 3 point shooting from Spangler, Hornbeak and Woodard.

I should have been a bit more clear. I was talking about the 5 game 3 point percentage shooting for those three guys.

I hope that Spangler doesn't need to take free throw lessons from Blake.

They shot 50% from on free throws or it would have been really ugly. Tough shooting day for Cam but he still shot over 50% on the trip. He'll have buddy to help on his off nights once the season rolls around.

Yikes to Cousins and Wodard's TO numbers.

Just what I was thinking. Eighteen turnovers as a team, Woodard and Cousins with 12 of that total. OUCH!

Looks like Ryan, Je'lon and Cam had a decent game. The others failed to show up. It's easy to see why a team that won the first four games handily would go into the finale thinking they didn't have to play too hard. If so, hopefully they're learn from their mistake and be better prepared when they're faced with a similar situation down the road a ways. And, believe me, it will happen at some point this season.

They won't win many times when Cam shoots 6-20 from the field. That's a lot of shots for someone who only shot 30%.

I agree, Cam has to shoot the ball better if he is going to take twice as many shots as anyone else on the team. But, in his defense, he shot the ball pretty well in the other four games. Despite his off night in the finale, he finished the five-game stretch with a 52% (37 of 71) average from the field.

I think most of us will agree that this OU team has a very small margin of error. There are no real stars, no go-to guy like Romero last year who can find a way to score when everyone else is struggling. If they're going to win a respectable number of their games this season, it will have to be with great team defense and a solid performance offensively from several key players, or from enough of them to take up the slack if someone has a bad night.

There were several factors in this game that contributed to the loss, among them too many players who didn't step up and do their part. The telling stat to me, though, was a high number of turnovers (18) when Evreux seemed to catch our kids by surprise by being a lot more physical than any of the previous four teams. Physical play is something our guards better get used to, because they'll see a lot more of it in the conference portion of our season.

Obviously, the team did not perform well in several areas. But I think the competition may have had something to do with it. And, in the end that may benefit this OU team more than the easy wins in the first four games.

I think post depth will be an issue. Would have been nice to see Buddy during this trip but I think the guard spots will be just fine. Plenty of depth and talent there. I can see this team surprising people if they truly can put a lot of ball pressure and stingy defense on people. Will probably need to be a little more uptempo then they were last year. I trust Lon though. Has a good schedule set up that if they can win the ones they should they will be knocking on the door of the tournament again.

I wonder how much conditioning played a role in the fifth game as well, especially for guys like Woodard who's returning from an injury and Bennett and Spangler who haven't been in a real game in over a year.

Also, Tyler Neal stunk up the place in a BIG way. Man, those numbers are awful against lower level competition.

maybe maybe not ..

we know we have 4 very solid guards .. with booker as the 5th guard ..

then we have 2 solid posts plus we have Cam as a hybrid ...

we really only need 1 of the 2 juco big's to be a "solid" player and that would give us a very solid 8 plus booker plus neal plus the other juco big

Cousins and Woodard turn the ball over like this during the season...we are going to have a bad season.

AS

I think he's counting Spangler and Bennett as the two solid posts and then either Hamilton or Avila as the other.

We've had conflicting/indecisive info concerning the status of the two incoming JC posts, especially Avila.
