Tiny Gallon

Meh, wonder if he still brags about all those cars he has?

No need to bag on Tiny. There were plenty of others that deserve it more during his tenure. Just immature but a good kid who I wish well!

When he refused to cooperate with the NCAA investigation, putting us further in Dutch, he lost me. I don't wish him ill; I just have no feeling about him at all. I don't consider him a Sooner, since he didn't seem to consider himself one, either. I agree he wasn't the worst of the bunch, by a long shot, but that's faint praise.

Very true. Tiny was easily influenced and TMG was bad for him. The loan deal was his mother's doing. What 18 year old kid really knows what's going on behind the scenes on finances? He wanted to stay at OU but the loan scandal sealed his fate. He's matured a lot since then. Tiny

Come on Sky, when you were 18 did you know about all your parents financial dealings? Him saying he didn't know anything doesn't automatically mean hiding info.

It was my understanding that he and his mother refused to meet with the NCAA, and that them doing so hampered the university's defense. Do I have that wrong?

If there ever was a thing called a package deal. This would be one. If mother doesn't meet then neither does the son.

So his mom said no. that's not Tiny saying no.

He wasn't 11 years old; he was 19 (or so). You want to put it all on his mom, fine, but it's an odd defense. Others blame TMG for (some of) his troubles at OU. Somehow Gallon always gets a pass.

Read my first post again; I didn't trash the guy. But his legacy at OU is not a good one. If I'm going to pull for a D league player, it'll be Osby.

When I was 18 and getting ready to go to college, if one of my parents had somehow arranged a loan in order to get me into college ($3,000 to get his prep school to release his transcript), I would have been oblivious. They didn't discuss their finances with me. Later if they had gotten in some trouble because of that loan and refused to cooperate in some investigation, I would have probably refused too even if I didn't know anything.

Maybe your parents let you know all about their financial dealings as you graduated from HS: bank balances, loans, salary, monthly cash flow, etc.

Actually most of the evidence showed former OU assistant Oronde Taliaferro had been texting and calling a Florida financial advisor and the money was transferred to the Gallon account. OU coach Capel was cleared of knowing anything about it...... I'm sure Mom knew because it was her account but that's what she didn't testify about. I doubt Oronde was telling too many people the details behind it.

Yeah, I'm giving Tiny a pass. You guys can choose to believe what you want.

The coach, the school, and the NCAA have way more blaem in that situation then Tiny and his family.

Yeah, Mom knew they got the money but probably didn't know how or where. She didn't want to get Oronde in more trouble so she didn't cooperate in the investigation. I think its more likely that Capel knew the details than Tiny did. I doubt Oronde confided that kind of info to an 18 year old kid. There was no evidence he did.

She certainly knew it wasn't done "properly", or within the rules.

what was her other option ....

if the ncaa had given tiny a 10 or 15 game suspension (they didn't tell him what they would do) he would have returned to OU

What do you mean, in terms of getting the money to pay off whatever debt was keeping Tiny's transcript from being released?

How about anything legal and not against NCAA rules? Get a second job. Find a way to get a loan, even with horrible terms. Borrow from family. Sell something. Heck, sell one of Tiny's 5 cars. Have a fundraiser (if not against NCAA rules).

And she was supposed to say "sorry son, your school wont' release your transcript, guess you aren't going to college"?

Over doing something that is blatantly against the rules?

Absolutely.
