Tonight's Big 12 game

Question is... Would Beard leave Tech for Texas?

Shaka's buyout is pretty large ($10.5 million). I'm not sure that the UT "higher ups" care enough about UT hoops to bite the monetary bullet and fire him this year. They also have to pay a new coach coming in. Next year, the buyout decreases and I think that is when you see Del Conte pull the plug on Shaka.

Regarding Beard, even though he is a UT alum, I don't think he leaves unless it is for a blue-blood. Tech keeps upping the ante on his salary (he makes $4.57 million/year) and he seems to like it there....at least for now.

Historically, yes. Plus, I would imagine Norman is a better place to live than Lubbock.

I don't think history is important when you've already been to a national championship game, you have better fan support, your arena is better/newer, and you make more money than the guy you'd replace.

Since it's his alma mater, I'm sure he already realizes that basketball is #2 in Austin. Instead, I could see him doing what Billy Gillespie did the prior decade after raising the bar at A&M, and leave for a blue blood. That said, no question he would get Texas back to where Rick Barnes had them in the early-mid 2000s.

ou is a significantly better job
In what way?

OU is better in tradition.
Tech has the better arena.
Tech is investing more in the program.
Tech has better fan support.

Of course these things are fluid. But what makes OU the significantly better job?

location Athletic dept and budget

Tech spends a lot more money on basketball than we do at Oklahoma. Beard's staff is enormous. The red carpet is rolled out for his every want.

Numerous instances have been discussed on this board where the AD has nickel and dimed Kruger.

Tech has a nice arena for sure but Red Raider fan support is pretty bandwagon, too.

i've seen Spirit or whatever half-empty a bunch in the Pat Knight or following Gillespie or even Tubby years. wouldn't say anything about Tech hoops is a "sure thing".

Tech is also in at least rebuild/remake to down cycle in football by firing Kingsbury and the end of the Leach era (and KK post-era) on the gridiron. good basketball is gonna draw people when football is down.

that happened at OU with Kelvin's guys being pretty good as football scuffled in the 90's.....i saw the same thing at Colorado, some, living in Boulder as CU's football went in the pooper. basketball gained interest with some success.

i remember that....Coors Event Center in the Ricardo Patton years was one of your more underrated sports dollars. you could get a GA ticket, a couple beers, and nachos for 20$. and see some of the better teams in the early Big XII (if you were me....us, OSU, UT, KU, MU sometimes) for low cost. and nachos.

truth is Ricardo's teams were generally pretty decent to above average. much better than he gets credit than with my CU friends.....

They've shown some life the past three games (as I predicted they would at some point). We'd better be primed and ready on the 22nd.

OSU did what we couldn't do. Won in Manhattan.

Fortunately, we’ve done what they couldn’t, specifically, winning more than two league games in five-plus weeks. I think they’d probably trade places with us if given the choice. :)

The poster you quoted will ALWAYS take the negative slant if at all possible. Yeah, they won in Manhattan for their SECOND conference win on the year!!! So I guess they did do what OU couldn’t do...although they are about to be 4 games behind OU in the standings!!

How many conference losses a team has does not diminish a victory. This applies to all teams.
