Baylor definitely liked him. They were recruiting Marquise Carter (Gonzaga), Newell, Gary Franklin (Cal), Josh Selby (Kansas), Phil Pressey (Missouri) and Stargell Love who ended up at Baylor. I know that they wanted Selby, Franklin and Pressey. I am not sure if Newell or Carter had committable offers but they sure thought highly of both players.
