Top JUCO for 2014

I haven't seen her name come up at all nor have I seen any other jucos mentioned.

just me, I hope we don't sign another JUCO player, we sure haven't had success with those we have signed, since Maria.

Getting any recruiting information out of the OU Women's basketball program is like finding the fountain of youth. It's pretty damned hard. :D

Do we need a juco big? Yes, we need any big and a juco is better than not having one.

Do I want a juco big? No, for a couple of reasons. 1) we have used most of our ships on guards and only have 2 for 2015. We have the following girls we know are being looked at by OU:

Ashley Hearns- 6'3" PF from Texas
Brooke Alexander- 6'0" Combo guard/SF from Texas
Hailey Tucker- 6'2" PF from Bartlesville
Meredith Burkhall- 6'3" PF from Iowa

If we just sign one, I would think our best chance is to sign Alexander. That might help us get Cox in 2016. In my opinion, we should do nothing that might limit us from going after more elite bigs like Cox, Boley, or even Mulkey.

In 2016 we have Dungee coming and without question we will have to have more bigs. Here are the ones we are currently talking to:

Aaliyah Wilson 5'10" Guard from Muskogee
Nancy Mulkey- 6'9" C from Texas
Lauren Cox- 6'4" Forward from Texas
Erin Boley- 6'2" Forward from Kentucky

My other problem with jucos in general is, they normally don't help much until their second year. That means they take up a ship for two years and maybe deliver for one year.

So, yes, we need one but no, I don't want one. Okay, I do realize how goofy that sounds!

We are talking about adding, but is there even a scholarship available? With all the guard types Sherri has added I am not sure there is.

We haven't had great success with JUCOs, as others have suggested. I'm not sure that with one scholarship that we would risk it on a JC.

No more jucos. Sherri won't play them much and they haven't been worth anything.

roc,
We're counting Gibbs in any projections? Really? What beyond the fact she's occupying a roster spot makes any projection of her competing for playing seem realistic right now.

I realize JUCO additions lately have been busts. Right now it's Gibbs or Kellogg or nothing.
Meanwhile OU will have 6 players competing SG.

So you have given up on Williams already? I don't count Kellogg as a post, she plays more on the perimeter, or more of a power forward position, and yes I see potential in Gibbs, she is just a freshman and she could help. Just my humble opinion.

roc,
i'm counting on starting Williams and Pierre Louis for 2014-2015
This 4 guard nonsense has to stop.

I don't really see how a JUCO PF is more of a flyer/hope than expecting a real contribution
from Gibbs next year.

I'd love to be wrong on this. Same with Kellogg making a great leap forward.

OK. What are your grounds for starting Williams over Gibbs? Given what I have seen in the past two months, I think that has become a legitimate question. I wouldn't mind starting Gibbs along the side of Griffin right now for a game or two just to see if we can get some room for Griffin and some rebounds. She won't foul out any faster than Kay Kay, and she actually does get rebounds. We need for someone to provide something different, something to force the other team to adjust.

Now, you and I are on the same page. We need some toughness on the glass and Kaylon and Vionise can give us that next year.

syb,
I'm going off minutes played and demonstrated ceiling.
Off the limited TV action I've been able to see.
Probably hoping that this "lost" year for Kaylon is knocking off the rust from her injury year.
But, if Gibbs is the better player next year, start her at 4.
Same for Kellogg. If Williams is better as an energy player off the bench so be it.
