Trae and the NBA

I guess it depends on who is drafting in the top as to how excited Trae will be. Kind of like being in the NFL draft and knowing Cleveland is taking a hard look at drafting you. That being said I would bet he leaves. Hard not to but I do agree that he has to be ready for it to be a business and he will be treated as such.

If Trae is a lock to go this year shouldn't we see some movement on the recruiting front for an '18 point guard?

Probably... but the team has Jordan Shepherd for two more years. He is the assumed starter once Trae is gone. I bet they pick up a point guard in the late period though.

Is there an NBA franchise that is equivalent to the Browns? Where you just don't want to go play there? I can't really think of a total dump franchise like that in the NBA.

The worst teams in the NBA this year are the Suns and the Hawks, if I am not mistaken. I don't think Trae would despise playing in those cities.

I understood Jordan Shepherd had two more years of eligibility after this season before my original post. That is my point. You need more than one point guard.

I'm amused by posters who profess to "know" that Trae will enter the draft. While he likely will do so, nobody knows with certainty what Trae will do.

What Ada said makes perfect sense.

mcgusty has the ability to be the back up 1 ...

This. NBA drafts 19 year olds based on potential. He can gain 10 lbs in college or working on it full time as a pro. The IQ and skill set are there. He's a lottery pick.

Define lottery pick. 14 teams participate in the lottery but only the first 3 picks are chosen by the lottery (4 in 2019). Trae Young will not go in the top 3. His selection brings too much risk for having a total bust. No so with 6'8" Luke Doncic, 6'11" Marvin Bagley, 7' 0" DeAndre Ayton, 6'10" Michael Porter, 7'0" Mohamad Bamba and 6'11" Jaren Jackson Jr.

I think 6'9" Kevin Knox, 6'10 Wendell Carter, 6'10 Bruno Fernando and 6'9" Robert Williams also go before Trae. But come June the mystery will be gone.

the top 14 makes you a lottery pick ... that is always how it has been defined since 1984 (the teams not in the playoffs are in the lottery thus those are all lottery picks)

also close to a 0% chance trae is a "total bust" several of the guys you listed have total bust potential

I see Spock listed a bunch of big men he thinks will be drafted high. Please tell me you've been watching the NBA for the past few seasons and have seen the migration away from low-post scoring to free-wheeling 3pt shooting. Second, since there are so many bigs available, why waste a high pick on one.

Would guess that any recruiting would be a grad transfer. Not going to add a high school kid just to add someone.

With Harmon arriving in '19, I'd expect a grad transfer to be added at the PG position. I don't think we should assume that Shepherd will be starting at the 1. Maybe he's the leader right now, but I'm not assuming that that will be true next season.

Trae could be like Blake and want to stay.
He will be played much tighter the rest of the year. I hope he learns to be more selective on the 3s. Several of his long shots were just quick throws.

Can you name a bust guard? I can name several bigs. Most recently is Graf Oden over Kevin Durant

Trae would be high on my board. I would trade down if I was supposed to put KC one of those bigs.

That is the old NBA, a lot of these guys are tweeners and they must be able to handle the ball. Guards and big men with handles that can shoot is where it is played today. There is little chance that Trae will be a bust.

Once Trae leaves OU I will never see him play again...I can not stand the nba game at all

Khavon Moore has the ability to be a backup pg.

The NBA game has improved by leaps & bounds. At least when Trae gets to the league, you should give it a chance.

Not saying Trae will be a bust just not a lottery pick. JMHO. May be a 20-12 first round pick.
