Trae Young.

The same guys, less Manek, lost 20 games the year before Trae. That’s the most in program history. Trae did not have a good team around him.

This. It was Frustrating when there were teammates complaining about trae when all of them peed down their legs half the time missing layups and open 3's that trae created for them..

And then we got to read on this message board, "Trae is selfish. He only passes to get assists!" (This was a real thing written on this website)

Could you imagine how good last 2 years would have been with Trae? Granted the post season wiped out one of those years but imagine having guys like Gibson or Reeves and Doolittle and Harmon that can make shots and distribute some on their own. That's something outside of Manek that Young didn't have with any consistency at all that year.

I've no interest in defending a 20-loss season but there have been a good number of Sooner teams that had a worse won-lost percentage than that 2017 squad, several of whom surely have lost 20 or more games if they'd played as many games as teams do today.

John McLeod coached an OU team to a 7-19 record (27%); a Bruce Drake squad went 6-12 (33%). Benny Owen, bless 'em, coached a team to a 17% winning percentage (1-7). Tubbs' first team came in at 33%. Dave Bliss matched that 2017 team's 35% winning percentage in 1976.

And there were several others.

Since the NCAA tourney expanded to 64 teams, ie the modern era of CBB, that year was OU's worst.

We were a dreadful defensive team with Trae. 4 on 5 was being polite.

We outscored teams when we were hitting shots. When we stopped hitting shots we got our doors blown off. Those same guys lost 20 games the previous year. The worst season in school history. They earned that title fair and square. They were AWFUL.

Christian James's body language was as bad as any player in recent memory.
Kameron McGusty and his mother should've been strapped on board the nearest rocket and fired into the sun.
Rashard Odomes, for all his defensive prowess, was an offensive liability.
Khadeem Lattin is the main reason Trae didn't average 15 assists a game.
I love Doolittle, but something about the entire dynamic changed when he got back from suspension.
And Brady Manek. Well. He left.

It was just a mess. Trae is a much better NBA player than I ever thought he'd be. I thought I'd be good, but he's great, and he's perfect for the modern NBA. In tougher times, some 7-foot goon would knock him ten rows into the nickel bleachers. Can't touch 'em now.

Sad thing is that McGusty's defensive numbers were worse than Trae's that season (full season and in conference games only).

as we see with capela, one thing trae could have benefited from was an actual athletic center. anyway, offensively his bad shots increased as he lost trust in his teammates who shot like absolute garbage down the stretch.

I've always wondered how that season would have turned out if McGusty (or whoever was the worst troublemaker) had been kicked off the team early on.

Lattin was pretty athletic no?

Lmao at all the clowns who said he wouldn’t make it in the pros. He’s the best player in the nba playoffs!

Let’s not get carried away. He’s not better than either Giannis or Kawhi. However, Trae is the reason I am going out of my way to watch the NBA playoffs. Let’s hope Coach Moser can leverage this in recruiting.

Trae’s been the best player in this playoffs in my biased opinion. No one has been more valuable to their team (not even debatable).

Booker is great but he was terrible last night against the clippers without kawhi. 15 points on 20% shooting. Trae is doing way more for his teammates on a nightly basis, as well.
