Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

Re: Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

You can guarantee this? How can you guarantee it? Get me a quote from Schmitty or Stoops that says they skipped study hall and I'll believe it. Or, get me a quote from Sam or Gerald like TMG posted on his facebook page.

I can guarantee you they didn't skip a study hall.

Well they did graduate early so technically they have been skipping study halls for quite sometime. :)

If anybody still wants to talk about Tramel's blog and not who recruited Tony Crocker, I think Berry is pretty much on the mark. I would argue kicking the team out of the locker is no big deal worth discussing - every coach does it - but his point that Jeff has done a poor job this year is undeniable. So is the fact that he is a young coach who likely has a bright future.

Jeff's body language hadn't really bothered me, but some of his public comments have dislayed his youth. I didn't like his "we played the hand we were dealt" and "help is on the way" comments after his first season. But, overall, I like what I see from him on the sideline.

Your joking right? How can anyone say the X's and O's are fine when OU is going to post a losing record and does not even compete on the road. There may be issues with psychology but this team also just doesn't play sound basketball. They can't play man to man or zone at a Big XII level.

+1

X's and O's have to deal with strategy...which any big time coach will tell you isn't splitting the atom. There are only so many offensive and defensive sets you can run, and almost every coach has seen them at this level. Our sets are not our problem, its the players running them and their execution (worked for Blake's team last year)

What you are referring to is recruiting players to fit this mold and retaining them until their upperclassmen years. You are touching on player development and retention, which I concur has been lacking overall.

Re: Tramel Blog: "Capel's Comment Ironic in OU's turbulent season"

Then you haven't paid attention. He and Tiny could not start due to suspension because they got back from Christmas Break late (missed a practice). I think they got a half game each. That was actually probably one of Capel's biggest mistakes this season. He should have sat them for a whole game maybe two but it is easy to make that call in retrospect.

I will bet you money if a player ever misses practice again, Capel comes down on them super hard. He is young and he is learning.

This! TMG has stayed out of trouble since then and Tiny to an extent but I agree that Capel probably should have suspended them a game but it looks like the message got through but definitely if it happens again you're right I see him coming down harder.

I didn't see the TMG comment about skipping study hall but I know he has a personal tutor so its not that big of a deal if he did. Most athletes go with tutors. TMG and Tiny both need to stay off Facebook, they both share way too much and not everyone knows their jokes and take that stuff serious.

The body language comment was meant toward the team.

As far as the article I didn't see anything new that hasn't been discussed on this board all year.

Not sure how many malcontents OU has on its roster. I do know there are quite a few on this board. :)

You know the old adage...when you point a finger at somebody, you have 4 fingers pointing right back at you.:ez-laugh:

Does that old adage still apply if it's the middle finger you're pointing?

Depends on how your pointing it. :ez-laugh:

I guess that's true. Anyhow, I hope you know I was just kidding with that middle finger crack.

I knew you were. I don't take any of this stuff seriously...we all have a right to our own opinions. I'm probably wrong on most of mine, but at least I have an opinion. Too many people just blindly follow along with the crowd instead of forming their own opinions these days.

No offense taken. ;)

.

No, it was directed toward Capel.

"But the most telling body language I’ve seen this season came from Capel himself, Wednesday night during the Colorado game. As the game seemed to spiral away from the Sooners, Capel sat on the bench with his face in one hand, as if resigned to the avalanche that this season has become. That’s an awful message to his team."
