Tramel Blog

I don't think he is a lock. The way things look, he probably should make it, but he isn't a lock.

if we're looking at the traditional positions, 3 guards 2 bigs, there's no doubt he should be a lock. if not i guess it is debatable but i still can't see how he doesn't make 1st team.

Romero still doesn't get the respect he deserves. His numbers were better than LaBryan Nash in almost every statistical category last year, yet Nash was the one who got the nod for pre-season all Big 12 first team.

Ro is having a great season so far. He's 4th in the conference in scoring; 6th in rebounding; 4th in field goal percentage; and 4th in free throw percentage. His stats are even better in conference play. Will that mean anything when the votes are cast? Not likely. So, yes, I think it's safe to say that he's not a lock to make it.

Ro is having a great season, but he isn't sexy. His game is kind of under the radar, much like the entire OU team. Is he having one of the top 2 seasons for Big 12 post men? Yeah, probably so. Unfortunately that doesn't guarantee him a spot.

My thoughts are the Oklahoma media is one of the main reasons Osby might not make.

However, anyone voting against the guy is a fool. He is the thrid highest scroer, top 5 rebounder, one of the top foul shooters, a good defensive player and the star of his team. He is clearly one of the top 5 players in the Big XII.

EDIT - one other thought. Trammel is prick. The guy goes out of his way to be negative towards OU and positive towards OSU. I really don't get it because he grew up as an OU fan in Norman.

BT would probably be fine with three Aggies and two Beakers (five Aggies would be his first choice, but he knows better).

Oklahoma media also, IMHO, cost Landry Jones his rightful first-team All-Big 12 QB selection back in 2010, due to non-stop Weeden-boosting (especially before the 47-41 game at Boone's Farm). But, I digress....

He may not make the media team but I will be stunned if he doesn't make the coaches team.

You have to remember, the media has really no clue. They voted Danny Manning as the best player in Big 8 history when his career was not even close to Wayman's.

:clap:clap:clap

I think he expects "preferred media status" at OU and he's never gotten it so he's latched onto T Bone's coattails all the way. I saw a video of him during media day for football this year or last and after he asked last question, Stoops acted like he didn't know who he was.

i never care about this stuff at all. except for individual awards like POY ect

I thought Manning and Tisdale tied in that poll

Wow, reading this thread you would think Trammel straight-up blasted Osby and lavished praise on both OSU and Kansas.

I've got to admit, after reading that article I was disappointed in my complete lack of outrage and overall just "meh" attitude. If Tramel truly is some OSU foil, I don't think it was on full display there.

Also, why are people still reading local sports media? I don't get it.

Osby is not a lock, he does deserve it though. Lots of competition over the last 1-2 spots.

Trammel has probably watched 3-4 ou basketball games all year.

I agree that some overreacted -- it's definitely not an anti-OU/pro-oswho-KU story at all.

But it's a lazy-ass effort on Tramel's part. He offers no convincing evidence for why his four all-conference locks are locks.

  • Smart -- intangibles (which Osby also has in spades--he's the heart and soul of this Sooner squad)
  • McGruder -- 15.9 points per game (Osby's outscoring him at 17.2 ppg)
  • McLemore -- leads KU with 17.1 ppg in conference (see above)
  • Withey -- 14.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game (Osby's averaging the aforementioned 17.2 ppg and 7.1 rebounds)

So why are we to meekly accept that those players are locks to be selected over Osby?

Tramel should challenge the conventional wisdom rather than merely parroting it.

I don't disagree that he deserves it, but where a team stands in conference has a factor in where someone lands. Look at Pierre Jackson...leading the conference in scoring and assists, I think he is 1st team quality but because Baylor is going to finish at .500, he probably won't make it.

Withey is an interesting case due to his defensive ability, he completely changes game plans when it comes to getting points in the paint. Osby struggled mightily the first time around against Withey.

If OU wins their final two games and Osby plays well, think he will get a spot. But its definitely not a lock though.

It is the All Big 12 team. Not the All Top 3 Teams in the Big 12 Team,

So it should be solely based on numbers?

Yes, with an intangible or two thrown in, perhaps (though that can be a slippery slope). If a great player is surrounded by lousy talent, but he does everything he can do to help his team win and it shows in the numbers (but not in the win column), how is he not all-conference-worthy?
